Why are we where we are now instead of being here in the past?

Why has it taken so long for man to get to where we are. The automobile was invented in the 1900's airplanes shortly after the automobile. Why did it take so long for us to get to where we are technologicaly? If you think about it, it doesn't make sense. For hundreds of years man didn't have one tenth of what we have now technologicaly. Was man just unmotivated or what?

Are there any good explanitions out there? I don't think it is because we got ahold of alien technology either. Is there any scholarly theries about this?

Bingo. Better tools allow you to make better tools.

Edit: we have a pretty good record of human history dating back 6000 years, at least in terms of technology, and we can see how it developed fairly easily. There are millions of factors contributing to us being where we are today.

Why didn't the Roman empire survive? They had bathrooms, bath houses, aqueducts, sewer systems compared to the dark ages... ?

I think about this quite often. Its kinda strange. I also think about where we would be now if all this stuff was invented a thousand years ago.

There are sculptures of flying machines found in the pyramids which have been proven practical in wind tunnel testing. Also some metal artifacts with drilled holes of a smaller diameter than we are capable of creating today even with lasers, which might be useful in CPU fabrication if we COULD reproduce them.

Ancient civilizations had more technology than we give them credit for. A lot of it gets lost in wars.

There is evidence to suggest the Sphinx and the Great Pyramid are from 10,000 B.C. --- maybe Stargate has it right......

Choose your answer.

1. Humans are stupid it took billions and billions of years for us to come to this stage. The wheel took thousands of years to make!!! Because when you are a monkey your stupid. Do you see monkeys building rockets?

2. Its possible the earth is only about 10000 years old because, atheists and people who are offended by religions looks away, divine intervention.

That and a big part is what the others said about the better tools you have the bigger advancements you can make.

Because unlike the evolutionists theory that you can get order from chaos. Or everything is slowly evolving to a greater conscience. The truth is everything slowly falls apart. Governments do it to all the old ones have gone threw revolutions, falling apart and reforming. America really is not that old.

That?s my thoughts. I apologize to the people who are offended by my radical religious thoughts.:disgust:

For over a thousand years faith triumphed over reason in the West. A thousand years wasted between the fall of the Greek/Rome intellectual tradition and the dawn of the Enlightenment.

What will be the next big thing? It is true we have pretty good technology, but as I think about it a little more there have only been improvements in technology over the last few years. What will be the next big thing? One could say that the spaceship one and white knight thing was pretty good, but still I think it cost 30 million dollars. It isn't a lot of money compared to the billion per shuttle launch, but still it is a lot of money. When will someone come up with something that will totaly blow everything else out of the water? A cheap energy? What will it be the next big thing?
