umm..this will prolly get moved/locked...but we are part of the coalition of the willing...allies is just a shorter and easier term that doesnt sound as threatening

We are in a group of people working together. Together we are allies, hence the name.

Germany, Italy, and Japan were all alies, but we couldn't call them allies too, since that was our name, so we called them axis. It sounds kind of evil.

Just a guess.

I think axis sounds cooler, kinda space age...wonder why bush didnt fall for it? Calling N Korea, Iran, and Iraq the axis was pretty stupid since they have little to do with eachother rite?

All of their leaders have funny names.

in WW2 it seemed like the proper name, after all it was over forty allied countries against the Axis.

The "coilition" now is just to make it seem like we aren't acting on our own.

"Actually, there never was any "Axis Treaty/Pact". It never existed. It was simply a term coined supposedly by Mussolini referring to the unwritten bond of friendship between Berlin and Rome which happened to be on the same longitudinal axis geographically speaking."

Google knows all.

thank you sir bill, what did you search under?

The winners write the history books because the losers are dead. The winners get to call the losers whatever they want. What are the losers going to do about it? They already lost, and that's why they're the losers.

"axis allies definition"

Bill

p.s. I hope you didn't read that as a 'you should have searched first' statement. I just realized I didn't know either and you got my curosity up....

it is rhetoric to hark back to the days of world war 2, to bring back memories and compare Iraq to Germany, to demonize Saddam.

there is no reason for this to get locked, since it is "off topic" and refers to WW2.

mods seem lock happy on anything that mildly refers to the war...wasnt trying to crap on his thread or anything

Actually the term Allies goes back to World War 1. That was Allies vs. Central Powers... every war since then I guess we just call ourselves and whoevers on our side the "Allies"

the Good Allies vs the Bad Allies

we are always the protagonists and they are the antagonists, and they think the same way about us.

one side was commiting genocide wholesale😛 why not call ourselves allies and them axis.

big whup😛 no comparison.
