Why are we charging Sadaam w/a crime?

How about all those mass graves unearther in Iraq? Dropping chemical gas on the Kurds?
How about using chemical weapons on the iranians. Invading Kuwait and raping and killing thousands?
I am wondering what crime he hasnt comitted yet.
He has done those things against his own ppl. It was a soveraign state that we attacked under false pretenses.
What right do we have to hold him? He should be tried and held under Iraqi law since that's who he hurt.
He is being tried in an Iraqi court, where have you been?
btw just because you are a leader of a country doesnt give you full rights to commit human atrocities against them. He can be tried in the world court for crimes against humanity.
I think Iraqi court is the best place to try him, they are the people he hurt in the first place.
As for the world court, I think we're rapidly loosing our credibility when it comes to world bodies. After all, if we're above that sort of thing, can't other countries make the same argument?

chem weapons on iranians were supported by the US.
as for what he did in his OWN country when he was the RULER, we'll see what happens when the Iraqi constitution is ratified. as i said in my other thread, i dont see Sadaam doing much time. And like Mayor Marion Barry, Sadaam will probably be back in politics.

Genx87 was parroting your man-god's idea that Saddam Hussein was the most evil man ever. Just mentioning that he never hurt a single American...that's all. Don't worry, he's not going to crash a plane into your church.
I want to see a fair trial and see what happens. I think that most charges will not hold enough water, but he'll get jail anyways. either way, for being such an a$$ and turning the government into a dictatorship he deserves the jail

If by that you mean that failure to acknowledge reality is the cause of human misery, I agree.
Not quite on the same level, but close. WMD's or not, there is little doubt that Saddam committed crimes against humanity (in particular against the Iraqi people) and should be held accountable for such. If individuals acting on their own should be held accountable for crimes, then so should individuals acting through governments. I opposed the war against Iraq, but now that we are entrenched in it, then it is incumbent upon us to fight it to its full conclusion.Originally posted by: loki8481

What about what happened in Yugoslovia and Solbodan Milosevic? He's currently being trained in the Hague if I remember correctly.
Actually, heads of state are generally granted immunity to actions done as a head of state; although this mostly applies to international tribunals. (And it isn't also guaranteed, but it is a pretty common practice) However, since he is supposedly going to be tried in Iraq at some point in time, he can get hit with violations within the state.
It will be nice if they start stripping all heads of state of this immunity though. It leaves truly horrific individuals free from prosecution if captured in a state willing to try them. (or extradite)

Other than planning/supporting attacks on Americans and American soil; along with support by proxies, attacks on American citizens abroad; he is really a nice person that is mis-understood.
It is up the Iraqi people to determine if he committed crimes and should be punished.
Where is the WE coming in from. If have not seen/heard a single US federal inditment.
