Why are TV wall mounts so @#&($# expensive???

Fritzo

Lifer
I want to mount THIS TV in a corner, but those stupid articulating wall mounts are like $500!!!!! Why the heck are the so expensive????

What a rip off :|

The cost of the mount has to cover the cost of the lawsuits from people who anchor the mount in wallboard.

yeap.

i wonder how many poeple buy a 3k+ tv then mount it to drywall? heh

Because cheap mounts fail. (you get what you pay for)
Only a true idiot will buy the cheapest parts for a multi thousand device which weighs as much as a child , then mount it without following the directions, and THEN complain when it rips through the Sheetrock.

Al's hints for a lifetime of enjoyment, make sure the device is secured with a safety cable so that if the mounts fail, it doesn't crash to the floor.
Earthquakes can occur ANYWHERE in the continental US. ONly CA has relevant earthquake building code.
The rest of the US is subject to being just piles of rubble.

It makes you mad when you see what they are- they're just $10 worth of steel and some screws. I can't believe the markup on these things.

Because flat panel margins suck. Gotta make it up in accessories and labor.

I would like to see what you make with said $10.oo of steel and screws. Apparently you discount engineering and labor to an enormous degree.

I'm not being cheap here...I'm just saying that these things are way overpriced. They have stud braces for houses with basically the same engineering that will hold a LOT more weight, and they're 1/4 the price. I think there's too much markup involved in the product.

Oh, and Quasmo...thanks for the link.

That's kind of what I was thinking.

Same theory behind printer cables. They used to bundle them in with the printer. Now they charge you $20+ for the frigging things.

you're welcome, I just looked up Plasma TV mounting brackets in google, I'd suggest finding the model you want and running it through Froogle.google.com after that.
