Why are thinkpads so expensive on ebay?

So this is what I did today...I was scavengering around ebay for a new laptop...then I found this IBM thinkpad 380xd for like 280 (233mmx) and I won the auction. But then I just now found a Gateway 2500 (PII 333) for 317 and I won that too. So I figure that I'll keep the gateway and put the ibm back up for auction once I receive it. I have no idea why thinkpads are so much for so little..

personally i think that IBM make the best laptops, but that's just my opinion, others probably believe so too thats why the prices are so high

Do you guys think that it's better to keep the gateway (pII) instead of the ibm?

Relatively speaking, I think the $37 difference is worth the performance of the P2 so yeah, I'd keep the gateway if this was my decision. Of course, if the thinkpad comes with a bazillion options and awesome specs aside from the processor, I'd have to give it more thought.

They're not expensive if you buy from the IBM eBay store which sells mostly "new but old" hardware.

Here's one of the best bargains:
New IBM T21 Laptop PIII 800/20/128/DVD W2K $1299

Now that's a bargain.

Hehe I just read your entire post and it looks like $1299 may be a little out of your price range, here's a deal I found on the second page:

ThinkPad A-Series PIII 700/64MB/10G/Enet W2K $739
