why are there so many religious threads all of the sudden?

Because people have figured out that they are a very effective way to start a flame war.

Because AT is cyclical.

Evolution, religion, abortion, politics, cars, et all come up in bunches, then everyone gest tired and moves on to the next one.

People have realized that these topics spark long, heated threads. Its usually a means of getting attention, IMHO - either a flame war or at least to have "your" thread hit 200 posts and stay active.

They come and go in waves. You will see a lot of them, everybody freaks and flames one another then they die out. I'm getting a little tired of them myself. I wish they would have a dedicated Religion forum.
Flaming the atheist just gets old after a while.
Personally I really don't care what ANYBODY'S religion is, I just hate some of the really lame ones that piss me off.

we should just have a nef/flame forum in general, and lump everything into there, put a bandwidth cap on it, and be done.

Good idea... But also make sure none of the posts count towards your post count :)
