Why are there so many drug commercials on TV?

Why are the pharmaceutical companies pushing out these ads to the consumers?
"Ask your doctor if it's right for you...blah blah blah."

Shouldn't the doctors be the ones making the call on what medicine the patients should be receiving, instead of the patients making suggestions?

The funniest part is when they list the possible side effects and you hear some major ones like heart attack or death.

I wish they would outlaw it again. It hasn't happened yet, but I know there will be a day soon when my kid will say "Daddy, what's herpes?"
I'm fine with print advertising (although it's really annoying too since there's always a full page of side effects).

We've become more reliant on them as a society. The quality of food over the past decades has gone sour. Fast foods are loaded with synthetic materials, such as transfats. Produce has lost much of it's nutrients. For example, baking potatoes used to have vitamin A and iron -- now they have nearly none. Crops are being soaked in pesticides and herbicides. Even genetically engineered to withstand more. Natural sources of Omega 3 fats and DHA omega 3s, which are critical to brain and heart health, are depleting. Pollutants in fish are high, or you can eat patethic farmed fish.

Low potency synthetic minerals in centriums won't fix that.

The result is that we are severely malnourished, and it's creating health problems.

We've become hyped up on quick fixes for all these problems, when we're ignoring the real problem.

I used to have ADD and allergies, but no more. I changed my diet, exercised more and found some real supplements.

Because, in general, people are dumb fvcks. easier to market to them and have them badger their doctor than to convince the doctor to push thier drug.

Drug companies spend more on marketing than on developing drugs.
Any source to that statement or did you just make that up?
Here's one for you. Text
Pharmaceutical company's are the
Yup. Like most corps they're not actually interested in medicine (the product), they are interested in money. Medicine is just one way to riches.

And it should be noted that marketing is not the only place they dump money. They also have a very powerful and expensive lobby.

It USED to be illegal to advertise prescription drugs. Then they lobbied congress and Voila!
Now its legal to advertise publically.

I hate the drug commercials that tell you the name of the drug but don't tell you what it's for ... "Go ask your doctor" or "Go online"

WTF, just tell me what it's for!

Same with most other aspects of health care. Health care is simply a means of making vast sums of money by bending you over under the guise of helping you.
