Why are there so few females in rock music?

I would consider no doubt rock, and yes Gwen is hot. There are some chicks in rock. Sleater-Kinney, Hole, The Donnas, Kittie (shudder) are some examples of "chick bands" Then there's P.J. Harvey, Liz Phair, Veruca Salt, Poe, Garbage, Alanis Morissette (Jagged Little Pill, anyway), for female vocals. And lots of bands have female members, Smashing Pumpkins, Zwan, until recently A Perfect Circle, The E-Street Band, Lenny Kravitz's band, and others. So what exactly are you talking about again?

Kittie is an all female band that can rock, and one of the guitarists in Coal Chamber is a girl. Girls can rock.

because most chicks don't stand around and say, "hey, lets make a garage band!"
