Actually, Curry is worse because of the smell when it's cooked. There are a lot of Indians in my apartment building, and my eyes water every time I walk in the front door. The vents blowing out from the apartments are right there, and it's really a nuisance.

Rather it smelt like cigarettes and piss? I love the smell of cooking.

I don't mind the taste, but those are the top two foods for annoying everyone around you as the smell comes out your skin. The people who eat those things with every meal, often don't realize how badly and strongly they smell.

Contrary to popular belief, most people that eat a lot of curry dishes don't smell like curry, provided that you ventilate the room a little. We cook it all the time, and neither we nor our respective homes smell like it.

I'd bet my left kidney that your house does smell of it, you just don't notice.
That said, I love curry and I love the smell, no objections here. Garlic is good too, when used in the right dishes.

Some people have poor hygiene. I have quite a few Indian friends, and none of them smell at all like curry. This is a silly stereotype.

As I said in my other post, "curry" in and of itself doesn't mean much, so you could be objecting to everything from ginger to mustard seeds. It's far more likely that you're objecting to the actual vegetables, meat, etc. that's used. Vegetable curries don't give off much of a smell, and the spices are overall very pleasing to the senses.
