Why are there no/few 37" 1080p LCDs now?

Long and short of it, 37" is just about perfect for my loft area. I was thinking, "Hell, 37" should be cheaper than a 40"." Then I went shopping...

#1 - Most available 37" LCD's are 720p
#2 - The few 37" 1080p models that are still available cost MORE than an average 40" 1080p set.

Is there a reason 37" is so rare now? (And yes, I know the answer - if 40" 1080p is cheaper, then get a 40", but that's not the point!)

As the price of displays keeps dropping, that becomes the low end, I guess it isn't worth it to differentiate with a 1080p 37". At seating distance you can't really tell anyways, too small to matter, so price trumps all.

*sigh*

Case in point... Newegg's email today has an LG 37" 1080p set on sale. Regular price is $999 - $400 savings. That puts it at $599. Right about it is a JVC 46" 120Hz LCD for $599.

I recently purchased a vizio 37" 1080p LCD on sale for $399 at Target. It's currently $469 on amazon.com, but it's last year's model, so it's likely to go on sale again.

Be careful of the specs of the cheaper sets. While i did buy my 37" a year ago, similar matched sets that were bigger did cost a little more. Not much, but they did cost a little more. I could have bought a 52" set for less than my 37" but it wouldn't have been the same spec and quality wise.

I have one of these as a temporary replacement until I get my RP set fixed and I'm pretty pleased with the picture. The sound is one of the worst TVs I've ever heard, but the picture is good.
