Why are there always 2 people in a car during rally racing?

Watching SpeedVision and he seems to be holding a map and giving directions.
 
dude.. seriously?

1 is a driver, the other navigates.. That way the driver knows when turns are coming up.. sheesh.
 
driver and navigator.

the passager tells the driver the distance to the next turn, the degree and various usefull info (crest, jump dont cut etc.)

You ever try memorize a 100 miles track before? We're talking rally racing here, lots of twist and turns, not your regular F1 racing or the run around in circle like Nascar.

im pretty sure the track is really long, have you ever even watched a rally race? and playing gt2 or 3 doest count!😀
 
Nah, I never watched rally before and thought the tracks were well defined and easy to follow.
Never saw a race where you needed a passenger to give directions.

Hehehe, I remember watching a duo... the navigator said turn left or something, driver asks... left? You sure? He says yes... they turn left... BAM into a wall... driver was so pissed he started hitting the navigator in the head and cursing him off...
