Why are the sixers wanting to trade Allen Iverson away?

I've been hearing this buzz on TV lately here in new england... that the celtics are trying to make a deal for iverson. Why would the sixers trade away their franchise player (who happens tobe one of the best point guards ever)?

because Billy King lacks the ability to build a team around him. Neither could Larry Brown. He's a scoring machine but one man does not make a team.

He's getting too old to build around now. Time to shop him while he still has value (or hire a better GM).

I love Iverson, I'd hate to see him go but I'd like to see him have a chance to win somewhere.

What it comes down to in the end is the championship ring. Has Phili won one yet? They came close when they made the finals some years ago with Iverson, but thats all. In the end, the franchise is a business and you have to try new things to see what works. Look at the Lakers, they let Shaq go. Shaq is the best center ever to play in the NBA but they made a decision for the best interest of the team (not that it was the right decision.) Detroit just traded Wallace, one of the best defensive players in the NBA; why, because despite his presence on the court, they arent making progress. Phili isnt making any progress either.

Please tell me you didn't try to say Iverson is one of the best point guards ever.

I'm just sick of him, period. He's a great player, lots of guts, much talent, a proven scorer, and he's got heart on the court.. but he's also a ball hog, plays defense only occasionally now, turns the ball over too much, takes too many bad shots, and just lacks the basic fundamentals of sharing the ball with his teammates. I literally grew up watching him and after seeing his team implode in the finals against the Lakers, I just think it's time to move on. We have some good, young players but that's about it. It's just time for a change really, the Sixers tried to build around Iverson for too long and hired/fired too many coaches to try and make it work with certain players. Enough is enough, I'm sorry to say.

billy king is an idiot and the sixers organization is awful. Whenthey put a team that fit around AI, they got to the finals and lost to a dominant lakers that would have beat anybody. Why bring in players like webber and in the past players like glenn robinson and keith van horn because none of them complement iverson. We need a solid defensive team that focuses its offense around ai, not just giving ai the ball and watching him.

He is one of the best ever. Call him a point guard or a 2 guard, but he's a lock imo for the HOF, the benchmark for the games greatest players. Anyone in the HOF is considered one of the best ever.

Wallace was a free agent, and Detroit made an offer he wasn't happy with. Chicago offered him a deal that was pretty absurd, since he probably doesn't have too many years left, plus Wallace is not really an offensive threat. The Eastern conference's contenders are either Lebron James lead, or the Wade lead Heat... everyone else is playing catchup, for the short term and trying to buy championships.

He'll probably make HOF, but he shot 42% from the field. That seriously sucks major ballz.

Its actually very solid imo for a player who constantly gets double teammed because he's never had other studs playing along side to keep the defense honest. He's no MJ but over the course of his career there's been no suck in his game either.

LoL, you probably don't watch the NBA much, especially the past 2 seasons if you think AI still hogs the ball (um 8 assists). He's also led the league in steals before this year how many times? His defense isn't great, but it's not bad. AI isn't the problem, it's the morons who keep surrounding him with horrid, old players who don't complement him.

Hell, look at the NBA draft, Philly drafted Carney who plays the exact same position as Iguodala. Unless they got him as trade bait, they're freaking morons (we got rated a D- for our draft btw). AI is easily a lock for the HoF, his stats get better every year. I'd love to see him go to a real winner.

Speed, I admire AI's ability and heart, and he is a HOF player...but he is the biggest ball-hog not named Kobe in the NBA. He took 25+ shots per game this year - that's too high on a team with other people who can also score imo.

Horrid, old players? Iguadola, Dalembert, Korver - 2 defensive minded players and a 3pt specialist - all young - are exactly the kind of players you need around AI. Webber and AI's inability to play together is what killed their season this year, along with a poor bench. I have to be believe the pieces are in place for the AI to Boston trade - with either Telfair and/or Rondo coming to Philly in the package, but they need a third team involved for salary purposes - rumors include Drew Gooden or Carlos Boozer, but we'll have to wait and see.

Iverson is a volume shooter guy, and is a ball hog. He kinda has to be with the team they have out there now. But imo, I don't like guys who command a lot of shots but make a bad percentage of them. Right now, he is a clear #2 guy that you can win with, but will not lead a team by himself. He can make other people better.

i think they're trying to get rid of him, because he CAN'T SPEAK PROPER ENGLISH. ever hear an interview or watch a post-game press conference with AI?~
lol.

i don't really care where AI goes. a great PG makes his team great. nash, stockton (too bad he never won a ring, always ran into mj and the bulls)

Who does boston have that would be a fair trade for AI? Pierce + AI would be an incredible duo. I would love to watch those two play.

AI's only real weakness is free throws and outside shots in clutch situations. He is just so emotional that it messes him up.

I don't recall ever seeing someone who plays with as much heart as AI. Maybe Dwayne Wade.
