Why are the Jews so stubborn?

I saw that the Jewish people backed out of the Middle Eastern peace negotiations, and I don't understand why the Jews are so set on getting "their country" back. Let's look at some examples:

What would you say if the native Indians from America suddenly stood up and told the world that they wanted everyone except themselves out of the country?

What if Denmark, that owned Sweden and Norway plus more of Scandinavia once, suddenly said: "hey, we owned these countries once, we want them back now!"

Well? Why must they keep up this insane "holy war"? Why is it so important?

And don't give me the Holocaust story.....sure, it was tough for the Jews, but that doesn't give them the right to act like crybabies in this case.

In all of your examples, the peoples mentioned have a homeland. The Jewish people do not. They have been scattered the world over by the forces against them for centuries now. Were I in their position, I would be just as stubborn.

Perhaps because everyone else they've ever known was too, and they learned to emmulate?

Just a thought, but three or four thousand years of being kicked around by the rest of the world would make me a little stubborn, too.

You may also want to tone down your stereotyping prejudice. The peace talks had nothing to do with "Jews" generally, but with Israeli's. I happen to side with the Israeli's with most of what they do (most, not all). I'm waiting to see how long it will be before the final war begins... I'm guessing that it will be some time after the true Jews destroy the mosque descrating the Temple Mount so that they can rebuild Soloman's Temple. We shall see...

Netopia,

Saying that the Dome Of The Rock mosque is 'desecrating' the Temple Mount is, in my opinion, a very poor choice of word as applied to a holy place of worship dedicated to God, the same God worshipped by the Jews, the Christians & the Muslims.

NO!!! As Netopia pointed out, the leader of the Isreali government backed out, along with Arafat.

Although I am a born agian atheist, I come from a Jewish family, and I still can't understand why any of the people of the Middle East can't get beyond their respective histories and figure out how to live in the now. If it were up to me, I could think of a couple of viable solutions:

The better of the two would be to declare Jerusalem an international city of peace and love, open to all religions under an international agency such as the U.N. After all, it is a significant historical center for many religions.

The only other alternative I can think of is to turn the whole damned place into glowing green glass (i.e. nuke it) so there is nothing left to fight over.

It is said that they are God's "chosen people" but it is seems to me that means that they have been chosen to be sh!t on for the last few thousand years. That really kinda sucks.

Harvey, ever read The Sum of All Fears, by Tom Clancy? That's kind of like the idea proposed in that book.

I like the second idea better, though :)

Prodigy^, I am Jewish. Just tonight I watched an interview of my grandmother about her Holocaust experiences. You caught me at a bad time for this! You won't see many of your beloved smilies in this post.

It is Israel, but yes, primarily the Jewish people who want Israel. What is so bad about that? We were given Israel after the Holocaust by the UN, the Arab nations didn't like it and attacked. The makeshift army beat the Arab nations in a war. Various other wars happened since then and Israel has won all of them. They are defending what is theirs.

The Jewish people have been kicked around the world for 3000 years and persecuted most of the way. We are stubborn because we value what we have so much. In the interview my grandmother spoke about how she had nothing when she was in hiding during the war. Really she wasn't hiding, her and her mother were always wandering trying to survive. They were in one place for only a few months twice, the rest was wondering. She didn't even have a bath in the years she wandered, she lived on bread and potatoes. She truly values what she has and will not let any one take that away from her.

Israel has rightfully defended their land and should not have to give up anything. Why not look at it the other way, why have the Arab nations been whining all these years? Israel has the strongest standing army as well as the most determined so they could smoosh the Arab nations in a war, but they gave some land back. Why? Personally, I haven't the faintest idea.

<< What if Denmark, that owned Sweden and Norway plus more of Scandinavia once, suddenly said: "hey, we owned these countries once, we want them back now!" >>

Well, if Denmark is awarded Sweden and Norway plus more of Scandinavia by the UN and can defend it, more power to them!

<< Well? Why must they keep up this insane "holy war"? Why is it so important? >>

Because it is about our history as a people, three major religions are rooted there.

<< And don't give me the Holocaust story.....sure, it was tough for the Jews, but that doesn't give them the right to act like crybabies in this case. >>

How are we acting like "cry babies"? Isreal is defending what is theirs.

<< What would you say if the native Indians from America suddenly stood up and told the world that they wanted everyone except themselves out of the country? >>

This point makes no sense, Israel is NOT 100% Jewish nor does it wish to become that way.

<< I saw that the Jewish people backed out of the Middle Eastern peace negotiations, and I don't understand why the Jews are so set on getting "their country" back. >>

Errr...huh? Israel backed out, not just the Jewish people.

Everyone seems to neglect this, but England had a plan to split Israel in two parts BEFORE WW2. Half Jewish, half Arab. The zionists agreed to this, the Arabs did not! This plan would have made Jerusalem an international city. Don't feel bad for Arab nations, they had their chance and passed because it was all or nothing for them. Also, the Palestinians were told that they could stay in Israel when it was formed, however most left assuming that the Arab nations would give a spanking to the newly formed country and they could go home. Well, the Arab nations rejected them and wouldn't take them in, so they were stuck. They had left their homes and had no place to go so many have been living in poverty ever since through a few generations. How is it Israels fault that the Palestinians assumed too much?

I answered a few questions just now that were bound to come up because I usually do not come to off topic.

I hope I answered your question Prodigy^.

You are an idiot Prodigy^. Know what you're talking about before you start spouting off ignorance and bigotry. Israeli settlers came to Israel during the first half of the 1900s and purchased land from Arab land owners. That is how the Israelis first got some land back. Following this, the United Nations mandated that the land called Palestine, which was under the control of the British, would be the new homeland for the Jews. This was voted on and agreed by countries worldwide.

Now in response to your statement about getting the country back. You are deeply misinformed about the situation. The Arabs are the ones who want land back. This is mainly because the Palestinians are in a situation that the Jews were once in - they have no homeland other than the West Bank and Gaza Strip (and I forget what else) that was given up. Throughout history, Israel dealt with constant attack from all sides by its neighbors. As zippy mentioned, Israel has won all the wars it has been in. In fact, Israel once conquered the entire Sinai peninsula (which doubled the tiny nation's size), and gave it back for the sake of peace.

I bet you wish you hadn't decided to start this thread.

P.S. I am Israeli.

I won't write some boring long paragraph, but I will tell you that I kind of hate when the jews think they should be praised for being in a holocaust, what about the Armenians, what about them?

I myself have never seen a Jewish person that wanted to be praised for what they went through. The ones I have seen are just thankful they survived. They have to live with the fact they lost many of their loved ones and possessions they worked so hard for. The only attention getting I have seen them do is fighting to get back what is rightfully theirs.

Impact55,

That is one of the most glaring examples of profound stupidity ever uttered at this forum. "Praised" for being in the holocaust? I hope your choice of word is born of an inability to use the English language.

mosdef: try and relax. instead of being offensive, you could have explained the situation to me in a normal way instead of acting like an ass. And no, I don't regret having started this thread :)

GF, Russ and dennil: give Impact55 a break :) what he meant was that he's tired of seeing Jews trying to make other people feel pity for them and be so nice to them because they've been through the holocaust. at least that's what I think he means, and although I don't think all jews do this, he's probably right somewhere, they do use the "holocaust excuse" sometimes, unrighteously.

you're all three being pretty "profoundly stupid" by attacking him like this.

Well, I couldn't ask to be in better company with my "profound stupidness". Coming from you, that might be a compliment.

And I don't believe anybody who lived through what the Jewish people did could ever ask for too much sympathy. And I feel the same about any group of people who have been persecuted so wrongly.

dennil: you're still implying that he's saying something harsh, which he really isn't.

GF: there's no need to try to use your 'loved-by-everyone' status here on the forums to try and freeze me out of the forums, ok?

Ok, now that just threw me for a loop. The only reason I posted back to you was your calling me stupid. I am sorry if my defending myself was seen as an effort to freeze you out of the forums. I have no interest in doing that, this is just a forum, and you have the right to say what you believe. And I have the right to defend myself when somebody runs me down. So take my post for what it was, and lose the paranoia. Sheesh!
