Why Are Terrorists In Iraq Only Into Beheadings?

Good morning,
This is a somewhat unusual and potentially sensitive but sincere question:

Why are terrorists in Iraq only seeming to execute prisoners via beheading? Is there a tradition from Islamic law in this regard? Read the Koran back in college but don't recall anything specific, it was too long ago.

Terrorists in Iraq haven't been just doing beheadings...do you even WATCH the news or read the paper? There are suicide bombers all the time, in fact one struck yesterday driving a gas tanker and killed 9, injured 60.

Lance, I am aware of the overall violence. I just kept the title of the topic brief. What my question regards is the form of execution applied to the prisoners, as I wrote in bold. Sorry if there was confusion with respect to the subject line versus the actual question in the body text.

Only beheadings?!? What about car bombings (aimed at military or police, but specified targets), IEDs(same), drive-bys(very specific targets like the defense minister), etc? Don't you consider any of these executations?

The question is in reference to prisoners, so car bombings and drive bys dont qualify, those fall under simple murders.


I read it was 2 things, neither to do with religion, more cultural, but of course this is all conjecture:

1. if you are to take someones life you have to use your hands, IE not a bullet or poison (which is considerd easy), and if you cant do it then they do not deserve to die for whatever you found them guilty of.

2. Torture is not allowed I think this may have some religous backing Im not sure, but I remember reading on BBC and CNN that torture is considered evil, no matter the crime.
