How about you enlighten us? They have a hard fvcking job to do, they deserve respect. The only people who think cops are a$$holes usually did something to deserve whatever the cop did to them.

I think some guys (and gals) get a powertrip over being an officer of the law. No biggie, as long as they realize they only enforce the law, not interpret it.

They're probably a$$holes because you're doing 150 MPH over the speed limit, and they're treating you the same as a murderer... because that's what you become when you hit someone else.

AND since they have to chase after you.. yer endangering THEIR lives too... i'd be an a$$hole too!!

Same reason most cops are, becuase day in and day out the only people they really have contact with are the lowest members of the gene pool, what would your atitude be like?

Dunno. Some are, some aren't. Maybe because they're people? I agree, too, that they have a tough job.

In general, I try to be nice to them, no matter how they act. Cops are in the world's biggest gang. They all have guns and clubs and get real mad when you mess with one of their members...

Well contrary to popular belief there are a lot less asshole cops than you think. I have recieved a good number of tickets and only met one who was a disgrace to the uniform ha wears. Most cops act in that manner because of what you have done. I had a state trooper give me a warning on a 55 in a 35 construction zone which is a $270 ticket. He was a really nice guy. Also if you quit breaking the law they won't talk to you at all.

The trooper that gave me a ticket about 7 years ago was extremely polite.

Oh yeah, they also get to wear those cool hats. Atleast the ones I see....:D

Amen! Preach it brother!

Let's break this down...

1.) Cops get paid very little for putting their lives on the line every day.

2.) Most cops have to deal with assholes all day long... the police very rarely deal with law abiding citizens except in passing. Let's face it, most crooks are jerks.

3.) People in general are scared of them, regardless of whether the person has done something bad or not.

4.) Because sometimes (rarely) cops have to take a human life, and it really tears them up. Some won't admit to it, but it's true. The bad part is, you never know when you'll have to.

Cops have to have some ego... if they didn't they wouldn't be able to do their job.

Sure they have a hard job. Until a few days ago I had total respect for cops.
Sure they get bad press, I figured most complaints are exaggerated.

Then I got screwed over by two of them, claiming I damaged one of their vehicles...absolutely untrue...but 2 cops against one me...now my insurance takes the hit

I thought this sort of thing only happened in movies.

As I have been telling people what happened, I have heard their stories and things that cops have done to them....I am in disbelief....of all people, you would think you could trust a cop....I guess not necessarily

Sorry, can't enlighten you.

Most cops that I've met are 100% solid citizens, paid far too little to do a truly thankless job.

And one of the best I knew was gunned down last October by a drugged-out psycho, who had holed himself up in another person's house, and shot down the first person who tried to talk him out of there. A fellow musician, and the father of one of my 12-year-old daughter's classmates...

:|:(

Try explaining that one to your kid. Her entire class asked (and were granted permission) to sing at his funeral, in honor of their classmate.

after seeing police beat up people for no reason
after hearing my friends story about being stripsearched for nothing (at 15!)
after hearing about toronto police beating a homeless man to death
after they harass you for nothing more than wanting to go into a club
after watching them kick a girl out of a club in the middle of february with nothing more than a tank top on and responding to her pleas for a coat with "thats why you shouldnt come to raves, because kids that do arent really worth much"

you kinda lose faith you know?

*kat. <-- not against the police just lost faith that they are here to protect her.

I know what you mean. I was on the the road doing the speed limit (55MPH) and I noticed a state trooper in the right hand lane doing about (45MPH) all the other cars were scared to to pass him or something. So I go to pass him (still doing 55MPH) and the bastard pulls me over. He has a real bad attitude from the get go the first words out of his mouth were "What's your problem son". I was like WTF
" I don't have a problem and could you please tell me why you pulled me over?" He said "this is a 55 and tou were doing 60" I said "you must be mistaken. I was only doing 55 and you were doing 45"
Anyways to make a long story short the a$$hole gave me a ticket for doing 57. Then pulled me over again while I was trying to get back into traffic, because I have a pickup and sometimes the wheels spin in wet weather when accelerating. He was like "you tryin for another son"
I was like "no sir" (holding composure the best I could)I was so pissed. When I went to court the judge laughed at my ticket and said "57 in a 55, get this crap out of my court room." and proceeded to make that trooper look like an ass. I was well worth the court time.
That was just a bad experience there are good cops out there. Not all are a$$holes.

I've noticed that the attitude of cops very greatly from city to city. In Boston they were so cool it was unbelievable IMO (I was expecting the opposite), in some other places (that I won't mention) I've encountered a general negative attitude. The amount of racial profiling is also a lot different in different departments IMO. If there was less racial profiling, I'd probably have more respect for cops.

If you guys seriously feel that you have been wronged by a officer, call their department and file a complaint.

My belief is that in general, no human being can really be trusted with more power than others. This has been clearly exhibited by even presidents, of both political parties.

I will say though that highway patrol seem to have more smart mouths and assholes than small to medium size city police.

What eakers said. A few people who are close to me got screwed over really bad by cops in the past. They're not all evil and corrupt - but there's far too many bad eggs in the group if you ask me. Oh and a word to the wise, be careful when you pull your wallet out in the presence of an officer (like in Dunkin Donuts or somethin), bring it out slowly so you don't get shot 41 f*ckin times...

Don't get me wrong though, there's far too many cops out there who do the right thing for me to say "all cops suck"

Just like in any large group of employees, there are good and bad apples. I have known and still know both types. Just have to put up with it. Some people become cops for the wrong reason and get through the psychological checking. If you really feel that this officer did you a wrong turn, feel free to complain to his sargeant or if you want, you can make a formal complaint. These things are looked at and are considered when the officer is expected to get a promotion.

The fscking nerve of them. A bunch of kids break into a warehouse and use drugs and dance and they make them leave without giving them time to collect their stuff. What a bunch of asses. Last time I broke into a guys house to watch his tv I refused to leave until I had my fair share of popcorn....stupid cops.

Of course there are some bad apples, but they are the minority.

Actually I'm in an awesome mood, I just had some "poo-saaay" a couple hours ago. You're the one that just attacks people for no obvious reason....
