Take a look here:

seems pretty weird, since around November it seems to constantly increase .. , something is wrong ?

Also, why are they not continuing to decrease at the same rate they were decreasing ?

In the case of that specific SSD model line, Crucial released their lower-end V4 drive onto the market, which helped bolster the price of the higher-end M4 drive, which had for some time prior been in a sort of free-fall price-wise.

Although the long term trend for NAND flash prices is downwards over a shorter time period prices can fluctuate quite significantly and that is a significant risk factor for SSD vendors that don't manufacture their own NAND. If they forward purchase NAND at a high price and the price drops they are in trouble and conversely if they don't forward buy and NAND costs increase they either have to reduce margins or bump up the selling price. As a consequence the pricing level of a SSD can fluctuate between vendors regardless of what the spot price of NAND happens to be on any given day.

EOL pricing can have an impact as seen with the M4 and Samsung 830, which dropped in price just before the 840 Pro came out, but as can been seen with the X25-M EOL pricing can remain unrealistically high.

Anyway that Camel web site is very useful, thanks for the link.

Everything is imported. The American dollar is weak, and getting weaker. It's going to get worse before it gets better.

yeah, i noticed the 512GB m4 going for like $329 at one point, then $349, now it's back up to $379.

The general trend is still way down from 1 year ago.

The holidays brought all kinds of crazy sales and now there aren't so many sales. There haven't been any die shrinks or anything in at least the last few months, so densities are not going up in RAM chips right now.

We're hovering around the $200-250 mark for a 256 gb SSD; it used to be nearly double that a year ago.

Supply and demand. Keep in mind mobile devices eat a lot of NAND. Also, the holidays are long over so don't expect Black Friday prices to come back for a while.

Actually, the US dollar is close to the highest it has been in several months.

It's just normal fluctuations in the market.

This makes me glad I did all the shopping for my new build during the holidays.
