why are some GTS250's clocked...

It could just be a power thing. These are the same chips as the 9800gtx+, but draw substantially less power and have less power circuitry, it could just be that not every chip can handle the same clocks at lower power. My 9800gtx+ is barely stable at its stock speeds, and it's got better power circuitry and a beefier cooler than most gts250s.

slower than 738MHz core/1836 shader/2.2GHz memory?

here's one of them:

I ordered it, but I don't get why it's core is clocked at 680MHz, especially considering the fact that it has a Zalman cooler and it's newer.

Also, anyone know the shader clock on this model?

I understand the memory being clocked slower though as 2.2GHz GDDR3 is scarce.

They are the new green low power version. They will overclock just as well as a regular gts 250.

Crappy non reference parts. My GTS 250 is the same. It's clocked much lower than reference but I got it for much less.

Mine should be coming today. I'll sooner see if it was a, binned, b, green power-saving, or c, 65 nm instead of 55. I'm hoping the hell the reason is because it's a green power-saving edition, although nowhere does it say it is, while there is a palit one labeled so.

It was a piece of shit that I'm probably going to chuck it out the window. Runs at 69 C idle 54% fan speed. It was 65 nm and according to GPU-z was made in july 2008.

So, I just did what I should've done the first time... ordered the right one for the same price from mwave. I didn't even check mwave before I ordered that piece of shit from newegg, but it turns out they had something newegg didn't. It uses 8 pin power, but i'm sure it's 55nm and runs cool because it's clocked 738/1836/2200. Sucks ass I have to wait another week.

I suspect that they are getting close to the limits of that design. I recall that there was problems in recent laptop based nvidia gpus and apart from lower clocks, I also notice that many of them have short warranties (1 or 2 years).

Maybe they don't want to gamble with a high rate of failures?

If I were to buy a GTS 250, the one I would want would be the eVGA Superclocked edition. Its at 756MHz and from some reviews, seems to still have some headroom beyond that. To me though, it would only be worth around $110 or less (I'm cheap).

r u serious?

return it to newegg, even if you have to pay the restocking fee. I'd explain how hot it runs (and loud) and maybe how you didn't notice that it was underclocked. They have good customer service, maybe they will waive the restocking fee...

I never heard of a 65nm gts 250 green card. :\

Is this the one? It gets great reviews..
