Why are so many girls choosing psychology as a major?

Is it me or is this a recent trend? I'm working with dozens of people who are about to enter college, and a good percent of the girls want to go for psychology, while the boys want a wide range of majors (law, engineering, forensics (didn't expect this to be so popular), medicine, finance, etc).

BTW, I've noticed this over the last decade. I'm not sure if it's always been like that.

CSI:Major_City and CSI:Glamorous_Location is probably the reason forensics is popular.

No clue on the psychology thing. At least it's a useful degree.

It's kind of a paradox, no?

Emotionally unstable women evaluating your mental health.

A bachelor's in psychology is next to worthless if that's where you're stopping. Exceptions for those pursuing medical school or other graduate school afterwards. You need at least a master's or higher to get any kind of decent job after graduation.

Source: All the people I know who majored in psychology and stopped there, and are baristas at Starbucks or waiting tables.

Damn it.. I thought people read thread tags.

You should no by now that it's physically impossible to have a serious thread in ATOT.

Anyhoodles. I remember a lot of people taking psych when I was in university. Especially people in my polisci classes for some reason. I think it was seen as an easy science/medical degree that could potentially make them a lot of money without all the icky stuff that goes with being a physical doctor.

I can see women wanting to get into it as it's seen as a more nurturing field, if that makes any sense.

I know a few that majored in psychology and are social workers. Not the highest paying jobs out there, but they're doing a good thing.

But they needed to do some sort of certificate thing in addition to the undergrad degree. And they all ended up getting a Masters in Social work or something like that.

It isn't new at all. Women are drawn to fields such as psychology, social work, nursing, and education because they want to "help" people. Little do they know that society's fucked.

I don't think it's a new trend. I think it happens because they have no idea what the want to do and it seems like something they could get good grades in. My wife started in sociology which is pretty much the same thing for that reason.

Bitches be crazy. Probably because it's seen as an easy in to getting those initials before your name.

You'd think it would go against every fiber of a woman, to sit there and listen without talking much instead yapping and nagging the whole time.
