Why are shows earlier in Central & Mountain time zones?

You always see shows advertised like: "Catch this blah blah show at 8 wednesday, 7 central & mountain time"

Why is that? My personal theory is farming (i.e. more CST/MST folks go to bed earlier cause they are farming and need to get up earlier).

OK, whacked theory, but does anyone know?

At 8 EST, it is 7 Central. That way the Central and East "beam" are shared, making for more convenience.
