Why are several people selling off their PC Batman Arkham City?

They probably got the game free with a graphics card purchase as a promotion... then selling the game to offset the cost of the graphics card....

Right, Nvidia has an agreement with the publisher so it's being bundled with GTX cards from most vendors right nw.

As others have said, bundled with nvidia cards and some people don't want the game/have interest in it, using the money to offset the cost of the card, or picking the game up in the future for cheap.

I bought mine on ebay for $25 from a guy that builds PC's so he has lots to spare lol.

shouldn't he be passing that along to the people he builds the PC for? Seems kind of shady to me.

Oh ok... I wasn't aware it was being bundled with video cards... that explains it...

It was just that I enjoyed Batman: AA so much that I pretty sure this will be good as well. When I saw everyone selling their copies, I thought "What's going on?!?" LOL!

Anyone else looking forward to this game?

Looks like he is sold out currently. Just keep an eye on ebay, the price fluctuates from like $25 to $35 on there.

A lot of small builders keep the extras software/games that come with hardware a lot of times, sure they should pass it on to their customer. In the end, oh well, I have Batman AC for half price on Steam.

$30 seems like a good price for the game to play at launch instead of waiting a year for the $5 Steam sale. What sucks is I bought a 570 a couple of weeks ago and apparently bought one of the few models that dont come with codes. 🙄

I don't see how it's shady at all. If he didn't advertise the games in his build then it's still his property. His customers are paying him for an assembled PC, and it's up to them to agree what the assembled PC is defined as.

Is Arkham City a Steamworks game or did the cards just come with a Steam code?

As for the builder comments, I don't see a reason why the builder should be required to pass on the software. The builder is essentially taking the card that they purchase and bundling it into a desktop for sale. Consider it like buying retail and selling as OEM. Most big shops can probably buy OEM directly from the manufacturer, but the smaller shops don't really have this option. Their best bet is to buy in "alternator-sized bulk" from distributors like NewEgg.

Now... if the consumer provides the card for the builder to install, then in that situation, obviously the consumer deserves the game/code since the full retail card (and all included items) belong to him/her.

Arkham City is not a Steamworks game, but for this promotion the game is registered onto Steam. So only way to get it on Steam is to buy from Steam or use one of these nvidia codes.

I'd like to have an alternator-sized videocard 😀

I read some good stuff about this game, apparently it has up to 25 hours single player game, but 40 hours if you do side missions.

I might have to look for one then! Being a "Steamophile" is so hard when their sales on pre-orders are usually 10% at best. 🙁 Steamworks games make that much easier!

That might be smaller than some of the high-end cards out today. 😉

People that are building new SLI rigs are getting 2 codes, and may be factoring selling one into their overall cost. I sold a USB TV tuner I got with my card for $30, and got the card on sale for $429, so figure I ended up spending $399 for a 580.

Be careful of activating any keys on Steam you receive from ebay sellers. I speak from experience. http://forums.anandtech.com/showpost.php?p=28540578&postcount=56

I agree you always need to be careful. I've only bought promotion games myself. Batman AC and Deus Ex HR. Both are promotions from the video card vendors and you have to register that code on the promo card to their website that then gives you the key add to Steam and get the game. Still a bit of risk, but I made sure to minimize it and the people selling both keys had tons of positive feedback and a history of selling promo games as well so I felt comfortable doing it, if I didn't I wouldn't have bought them and jeopardized my sizable Steam account.
