why are sales people so stupid?

I :heart: salespeople. For accountants trying to figure out sales and use taxes they're sufficient for breaking down technical jargon.

* Note that I'm referring to regional/national sales managers, not the minimum wage mall rate working at CrapUSA for the summer.

Sales people are there to sucker you in to purchasing something you don't need. They don't need to know the product at all. A good salesman doesn't sell the product, he sells himself.

You just buy into him or not.

I especially hate it when they say, "can I help you?" and you say, "no thanks, I'm just looking" but they continue to follow you around the store anyway...

Salespeople have to act stupid sometimes to avoid liability. If a salesman was selling you a used car, and he demonstrates expertise he will be held accountable for everything he tells you. So, if you try to pin him down on a fault with the car, he'll act like he doesn't know anything about them.
