Why are ram prices, especially Crucial's prices, starting to fall?

They are up and down constantly. Well, obviously a downward trend in the past few years too.

Are you complaining!?!? :Q

There's a lot of reasons why it is going down. One of them is that the technology is getting older and will replaced by newer technology which is more expensive obviously.

A couple months ago 256MB PC133 Crucial was going for $32 now it's $43.

I see this as an increase.

They're commodities like anything else. Prices fluctuate based on market demand, supply, et al.

I haven't looked at the manufacturing numbers, but PC133 is essentially a dead-end technology. If everyone's producing PC2100 now, the price of older memory will rise as supplies become scarce. Look at Duron and Slot A Athlon CPU prices -- most hover in the $40-$50 range, even though XP chips at twice the clock speed are only about $20-$30 more.

Yeah - the real reason we're going to war is to bring RAM prices back up!

I got that strait from a Rep at Intel. Chip makers trying to unload some old DDR to make room for DDR 400.
