Why are Quotes Not Automatically Trimmed?

Some threads are very difficult to read as some replies quote 7 or 8 previous response. Often at the end of 8 quotes, there is a 1-line reply. Does this not waste bandwidth at Anandtech? Is it even possible to change in Fusetalk? Ideally, the quote function should be just that person's reply, and not multiple posts by other parties.
