Why are public toilet seats split in the middle?

So you don't get Mr. Wiggly wet when you sit down on the seat. Some people are not so careful when they pee.

no, the first thread was strictly about the title of this thread, whereas this thread is about why home toilets don't have the split.

1.take 1 step back from toilet..
2.spread legs shoulder width apart..
3.lean forward, using right arm to lower your head towards the wall above the toilet..
4.use left arm to sufficently clear any clothing out of the urinary trajectory..
5.when top of head has made firm contact with wall, continue to hold position, propping self against wall with neck muscles..
6.use right arm to assist with urinary flow guidance..
7.breathe deeply and relax
8.(optional)make groaning or sighing noises indicating relief of discomfort

toilet seat covers, the stupid toilet seat won't stay up by itself. So
that means we have to use one hand to hold up the toilet seat and the
other hand to try to achieve that perfect aim.

I HATE those things :|

Honestly, what's the point of a toilet lid that won't stay up?
