So I just went to the post office to buy 2 stamps and there was a girl in front of me filling out paperwork to get a passport. Of course one worker was attending to the girl getting the passport, but there was another worker just standing there making small talk with her about where she was going while a long line formed. So I ended up standing in line for 15-20 minutes to get 2 stamps that would have taken all of 30 seconds for the second worker to sell to me. Why are postal workers so lazy!?!?

Better question is why that person behind the counter was so lazy. My postal people rock.

Just to piss off whining bastards like you.

Maybe the other employee wasn't on the clock...or maybe working the counter wasn't their job...or maybe, they were on break...or maybe they recognized you and just wanted to fuck with you.

They're pretty slow a foot at mine. But I have the leeway to come back if there are a lot of cars in the lot.

My Dad works in the Postal Service. All the rejects get counter duty.

Why did you wait in line instead of using the vending machine next to the counter?

Unions FTL. Any small business and that counter worker would have been fired on the spot.

Same. I have nothing but good things to say for my postal service. They're a lot more humble now that there's competition and they're not the only game in town.

What do you do for a living?

Currently, I work at a small computer repair shop. We deal with a lot of customers. If there is a long line, even if you are on break, you need to get your ass up there or else we'll lose the business.

Most likely the postal guy gets paid the same whether he helps one customer or a thousand customers. They should be tracking productivity which I assume they do not.

I think they feel entitled or something... I actually witnessed the following happen on several occasions when I was in downtown dallas working.

I would go into the post office and there would be a long line of people. There would be 1, maybe 2 people working the front.

Instead of killing the long line of people waiting, one of the people would actually go on break! Leaving the 1 person to service upwards of 10 people waiting in line.

If you did this in any other business it would be an outrage, but it's as if they just need to work at their pace... and then take every possible holiday you can invent as a paid vacation day.

lol how quickly ATOT forgets how the real world of private industry works:

An old office of mine allowed me to view our lobby, a lunch area and outside smoking area.

Some fuckers literally got there about 1 min before getting dinged for 9:15 instead of 9:00am, went and made coffee/talked for 30 mins. Went outside and smoked...came back in and did coffee...went to the restroom...made another coffee and went out and smoked again.

Sometime around 10:30-11am they went upstairs, which is about the time I take my lunch usually. a little prior to noon they were back down and out to lunch until just past 1am and clocking in. More coffee, go out for another cigaratte, usually a LONG restroom break with a book and get another cup and head upstairs sometime close to 1:30-2pm. Then about every hour downstairs for a 15min cigarette social break until one last final one where they just watched the clock until 4:52pm to clock out at 5.

They probably ended up working 3 hours in any given day.

When I was younger there was an old guy that would bring the paper in after lunch and camp out in the bathroom until he pretty much read the whole thing we all guessed. The problem was we had one restroom. It was literally locked with him inside it from about 1 to 2pm everyday.

I mailed an important package at the post office yesterday. The lady working at the desk was explaining to another woman sending a package how the people at other post offices aren't nearly as careful, therefore she had to do a couple things to her label and package to avoid it getting screwed up.
