why are pioneer dvd burners picky about their media?

i mean i get name brand media thats rated for 2x but it it can only burn 1x

yet apple media burns at 2x just fine

the other brands are made in taiwan etc but the apple is made in japan

what makes the pioneer drive hold its noise to most brands that are apparently good enough for other dvd-r burners?

i only tried riteks and TDKs

and they have both burned at their rated speeds

i tried memorex and maxell and neither worked at 2x
