I work as tech support for an ISP. I need to vent.

Bloody stupid moron comes onto the phone today bitching about his emails not coming through. He's spending more time yelling about how he's working with the Ministry of Defense, and that he's not getting their emails, then he is answering my questions. He seems to resent the fact that I'm asking questions than anything else. Turns out he spent all day telling people from the ministry that the problem was on their end.

We're having issues with slow delivery of emails right now, some taking up to 12 hours. I tell him about this, he goes ballistic, I can't get a word in edgewise. I calm him down, eventually get him to check his webmail, just to see what is there.

His emails are in his junk folder.

He blows up on me after I fix his problem. I don't even get the chance to tell him how to bring his filter level down.

Moron.

That is all, end of rant.

Because they can? Trust me I used to work for Time Warner doing tech support just like you're doing. People are dicks plain and simple. If you don't like it or can't stand it, just get out while you can. I think staying at a job like that with not being able to take it will do more harm than good to your health and mental state of mind.

Yeah,

I can usually handle it, I've been in and out of some kind of customer service for the past 12 years, but this is the first guy to piss me off after I fixed his problem. That video brightened my day.

I work for a web hosting company and god I hate email problems(IE our server catch on fire or something)

I just don't undertand why people are so touchy about email. Like the Pony Express never lost a piece of mail or delivered a message a few weeks late.
Like a USP truck never blew up either(I saw one on fire going to work yesterday)

If something is so important pick up the phone or walk 15 feet to Fred's office and ask him what he thinks of the boss's tacky tie. Gees that's more secure anyways.

I also don't get why people complain about spam.
Don't use your main email address to signup for them porn sites. Gees.

I guess part of customer service is being expected to deal with the % of customers that are jerks, such as the guy you describe.

he probably put in a complaint about you, after you fixed his problem. Just make sure you cover your own ass, by leaving appropriate notes in the account details, and not losing your cool in case you are being monitored by the quality team.

Hah, this reminds me of phone convo I overheard recently in a small gift shop. Elderly man (owner) talking in the back office obviously with some ISP:

Man:
-No, I only have the phone line here now.
-***
-So internet + email service will cost xx,-/month. How much if I just want the email service?
-***
-What you mean, SURELY it has to be cheaper if I just want the email and not the internet service???
-***
-Listen, don't try to screw with me. I know you are just trying to sell me extra services, which I don't need. I am not going to use the internet, I only need email.
-***
-LISTEN, if you can't offer me just the plain email service, then I will have to turn to someone else!!!
-***

At this point I had to leave, because I could not contain myself. I can imagine the frustration of the poor guy in the other end, trying to explain how you need the "internet" to use the "email" :D

Who? :p

Sorry, this was in Europe, don't get Juno here!
+ you still need teh internet. I think it was the way ISP presented the thing,
mostly ISPs have "internet connection w. x emails etc..." Price is obviously the same "with" or "without" the internet ;) (and whether dial-up, dsl,...)
