Why are people so sensitive?

Deeko

Lifer
I swear, so many people in this world are too damn sensitive, especially when it comes to race. All those people whining in the shrimp thread about the word 'oriental', come on, just brush it off and move on. I remember a few AT'ers reeming me out once because I said I wasn't physically attracted to girls that weren't white...so what?? Why does that hurt your feelings? I've never been hurt by being called a 'cracker' or any of the derogatory statements towards whites. Some people just need to learn not to take offense to every damn thing.

I agree. I didn't want to get involved in it in the other thread, but enough is enough. The region is known as the orient. People that come from that area are orientals. All my oriental/asian friends have no problem with the term.

You don't like latins?

edit: and for the record, I just needed someone to explain it to me. I respect their choice to not be called Or... and I won't. But, they have yet to prove to me that when "ori***rugs" is being used, it isn't as discriminatory. I will refrain from saying that phrase too now. I'll call them Persian rugs, cuz thats what they really are anyway.

I dunno either. personally it didn't bother me, but I felt I should point out to SherEPunjab that the use of the term Oriental was not commonly acceptable in reference to people, and maybe I could get him to realize why and stop using it before someone actually *did* get offended.

I'll use the same analogy again, what if one of your friends kept calling black people "negroes" and didn't know that it was offensive? Shouldn't you point it out to him that some people MAY object to it?

Of course, then it has to turn into an argument about WHY... who cares WHY, it just IS!

so can we call you a cracker from now on?

I always thought the word 'cracker' was unfair. why is it the derogatory term for anglos is so weak compared to the derogatory terms for people of other races?

for example,

cracker or beloved patriot sounds a lot less worse than the N word or C word.

Nope, just saying you sound like I did when I was 16 and didn't give a sh!t about what other people thought. Now I do.

It's all in the connotation; all spoken words are merely colllections of sounds. If I were to go to some random Oriental country and listen to what their language considered to be racial epithets, they wouldn't sound any different from other words in that language. "Cracker" or "honkey" don't sound that offensive to white people because white people do not have a (deserved or undeserved) racial inferiority complex.
