Well, I am for the pure idea of cloning, such as growing new body part for people, such as heart, limbs, misc organs transplants. I do not particulary care for the current idea of cloning such as child rearing, or copying. The main reason I see it would be seen in plants when farmers would take bit of a tree or bush to grow a "clone" of the origional, instead of the pollination route.
The example I give is in Riverside, Citrus was huge. Everyone was growing oranges and had thousands of trees all grown from the 1 origional. Then a nasty botanical disease came in. It just happened to be the origional was particularly weak to that disease and subsequently, all of it's "clones" were wiped out, devastating the orachards.
So if this lesson were to be brought in to a human population, the same idea would still be something to be feared. If this particular person be cloned instead of the normal mixing of genes, then evolution stops, sensitivities to misc diseases stops, and eventually can be a larger problem then whatever we were trying to solve with cloning.
I won't feel safe about cloning actual people until we can say we have stopped all disease, small and large, which I doubt will ever happen, in my lifetime or even my great-great grand children.
On top of this "science" problem with full cloning, then add in the religious and concepts of a "soul" and it is just too sensitive of a topic for us to handle in our current society.
