The real point of not displaying your real name is because people who you know in real life may find your name and tie everything you've said anonymously to you. AKA, If you post from work and gave your real name and your co-worker also posts from work, he now knows exactly who you are. Not only that he can do an archive search for everything you've posted and learn more about you.

That was always my thoughts on it.

I could care less if somebody knows my name. It isn't like they have my SS number or anything.

you might be surprised to find that there are ways to get your SS # with just your name.

yeah, me too. It was fine while I was in the Marine Corps, but I don't really want to have to worry about playing office politics here, too.

For the record, I'm not uptight: I tried to give you advice, yet you're too thickheaded to identify when someone acts in a benevolent manner. Look at how many people said they wouldn't feel comfortable posting their personal info? To each their own.

Btw, what happened to the $50 bet? You said you found my name, address, and phone number on google. To reiterate, don't write checks your mouth can't cash.

Where did I ever get angry or show my insecurity. If anything your the insecure person hiding on an online forum. And if I was truly angry you'd know it. If a friend or relative started talking nonsense like you are, I'd call them a moron too.

And I'm sure there are a lot of people on here laughing at you. I know I am. I actually laugh out loud when you write messages. Its cute when you try to act smart.

And I never made a 50 dollar bet, but then again you never actually knew any of my real personal info either untill I told you to do a whois on my domain. I think you just need a hug, or maybe a friend or something.

/me grabs phone book and starts "stealing identities".. bwuahahaha..

now that was uncalled for.
he was trying to give you advice and you made a mockery out of it by posting it on the board. there was no need for that. you should have kept it in PMs.

but really, you have to agree that whether you liked his advice or not he was giving you the advice because he believed in it and thought it was good. he was putting himself out there for you.

And he was dead wrong. I would have put down my mother the same way, and she'd do the same to me. I go for blunt honesty. Granted it wouldn't have been as bad if he didn't send me pm's. If your in a public discussion, you keep the discussion public.

You lost, just give it up. The more you open your mouth, the more you show your stupidity. You made a thread about me, talked smack, and I challenged you on a bet that you were too sissy to take. Hence: SP33Demon 2, TallBill 0.

Exactly, but I was never in a private discussion. I never sent any pm's to sp33demon, and never wanted any. I think he learned his lesson. Probably not.

On a side note, I've realized the people who agree with me are mostly people whom I view as intelligent.

Hahahaha, thanks for giving me a chuckle again.

I bet you 50 dollars that you wont find my current address. Right here in public. And if you don't take it, I get to call you a sissy?

We already know that I'm a loser and a sissy and whatever, so no sense in beating a dead horse. I already said that you were the winner, so no sense in keeping score.

Anyone who thinks they can steal my identity with a first and last name posted in a forum is more than welcome to have at it. You'll get more than that from the phonebook.

Additionally, harassing pm's don't have any right to privacy.

It's borderline threatening, except it's all rather funny since the recipient is in friggin' Afghanistan.

People seriously need to lighten up, a name posted on a forum is absolutely no threat.

The ONLY potential danger is someone connecting a name/address with an online fight, and taking it offline. Then again if you don't play kiddie games on the internet you don't have to worry too much about that. Again, no more danger than a coworker knowing your name & the city you live in.

If you live your "online" life the same as your "offline" you have nothing to fear, it's simply an extension of yourself. If you are a jackass online & rely on the anonymity of the internet to avoid getting your ass kicked, don't post your name in forums.

My real name has been in my profile since day one, and will stay there. I've posted my full address before, along with my phone number. No harm has ever come of it.

You're the moron who opened your mouth, I never claimed to be able to find your info (although you spoon fed it to everyone).

I'm glad you voiced your opinion, that's what makes AT great. I disagree with you, I can recount more than a few stories where not only AT members (like Eakers and guy who was fired from his job for posting Black Friday ads), but other people online who have unintentionally drawn problems by revealing their personal info. You can disagree with me, I'm only trying to help people out by bringing it across their attention.

That's aside from the point. Mr.TallBill: a) chose to respond in a belligerent manner when advice was given, b)chose to open his mouth, and c)create a thread in an attempt to downplay his ownage.

The key here is to not do anything online you wouldn't do in in "real" life. If you assume from the beginning that everything you do online IS real you won't have any surprises.

Except that nobody has my info, or my fiances. :D And even if they did, its not a big deal. Its not like I made a thread titled "heres all my info". I had a thread about a fricking PUBLIC newspaper article! PUBLIC! Its available onlines as well!

And I'm not downplaying my ownage one bit. I think you've been owned quite decently over and over and over.

I think anyone can be victimized, especially female, as Eakers has proven. I was genuinely worried for TallBill, who knows what psycho may have seen his fiance and found out he lived nearby. Now he has her pic, full name and address. Do you see the problem? Would you post your SO's full name, picture, and address online? I know many here would not feel comfortable doing that, I know I sure wouldn't. This is aside from any identity theft implications (they are rare, but do happen).

You're still talking? Take the bet already, I've been waiting to see your claims. Also, be sure to post the URLs from Google like you've claimed. The $50 is still in escrow.

I don't know, i just have something against poeple knowing my real name. Being on the internet makes me feel like a ninja. Secretive, mysterious, and I can disguise myself as being knowledgable.
