As car driver who is also a fairly fit cyclist, I try to treat cyclists as I would want to be treated while I'm riding, as long as they aren't riding like an idiot amateur. (Wrong-way riding and going full speed on the sidewalk where cross traffic doesn't notice the rider until it's too late are idiotic amateur moves, and such riders just might hear my car's horn.)

If I'm driving, I won't pass a cyclist that's riding properly on the right if I'm about to turn right in a couple hundred feet or less, so I don't cut him off. I just hate when I misjudge the cylist's speed and think they were going a lot faster than they are, but whatever. I slow down and signal, so if he looks back, he knows what I'm up to. When I pass, I try to give them plenty of "comfort" room.

When I'm riding, I pay attention, I yield right of way when I'm supposed to, and I treat 4-way stops properly when there's traffic at the intersection. I use hand signals to tell drivers if I'm turning or crossing the lane(s) to make a left. I don't ride the wrong way toward traffic. (A 45-50 MPH closing speed is a lot more dangerous than a 10-15 MPH closing speed.) I do all these things because I'd rather not get hit by a car.
