Why are most camera boxes not sealed?

Sony seals their boxes. Canon, Olympus, Nikon, and others do not. Why? So they can easily be demoed or inspected?

Not sure, but I've only ever seen cameras kept behind locked doors or behind the counter. Lowers the risk of tampering while making it easier to reseal boxes after inspecting or demoing.

I bought an SL1 last year and didn't even open it once. However, because it had a no-seal box, I opened it once before returning to make sure I wasn't returning someone else's brick.

It's very common in camera shops for staff to take stuff out of the boxes and let people handle the product and inspect. Maybe that's why?

When I purchased my D7100 a couple of years ago, this is why I got it through Best Buy in-store pickup instead of my local camera shop, because I could be certain it was NIB and not handled already.

I've seen this asked a few times on various photography forums and from the replies it looks to be dependent on the region. Even if it didn't come factory sealed some resellers will seal it with their own to keep track of opened returned items.

I don't know about other brands but here in the States I'm convinced Sony does not seal their camera products. My first from Best Buy a few years ago was not sealed. The second, straight from a Sony store was not sealed. I don't recall seeing a seal on the third I bought used. The lens I just got from BH was not sealed either.
