I can't figure it out. They write the very software that the world is supposed to use to run their businesses, but everytime I have to search for something or just BROWSE through MSDN online, it just crawwwwwwwlssssss. Regardless of what PC I use to connect, the performance of their web site always sucks. What's the deal, Microsoft? Can't you make your software scale?

do you think it might have something to do with all of the millions of hits those site receive in a day?

Imagine how many hits they get a day, imagine the constant incredible traffic they have to manage..... imagine the servers they have to manage that traffic.

The MS site is generally pretty fast for me though.

Oh, I'm sure their web servers get swamped with requests 24/7/365. But this is Microsoft...I would expect world-class web delivery systems from them. It's awkward for them to say how their software will improve your business when their own websites (or at least, their web system architecture: software, hardware, network) seem woefully inadequate.

depending on how fast are the computers you're using to browse MSDN.. the individual components that makes up their documents are hugh and pretty complicated, so usually it takes awhile for everything to download and render properly on your screen if you don't have a fast machine. How else do you think you can browse the TOC in the MSDN Library so fast after you download it? It's because the browser doesn't make any request to the server when you open up groups and such; all rendering is done on the client with DHTML.

I usually never have problems with them. I especially like the service that MS gets from Conxion. Conxion has one of the fastest sites I've ever downloaded from.

The regular part of MS.com is fast, but trying to search thru their knowledge base or tech support feels like I'm using a 14.4 kbps modem.

MS web sites are over clutered with technology/codes. And if they write better codes they wouldn't get that many hits.
