Why are men expected to put the seat down?

Because they're too stupid to look first, and will sit down on the toilet without looking. I personally put the lid down, too...that way women still have to lift it before using.

Because apparently women run into the bathroom in the middle of the night and just plop their butt down without ever looking.

Since men prefer to sleep in a nice bed next to said woman, instead of on the old, uncomfortable couch, they put the seat down.

Actually, men and women should BOTH put the Seat AND THE LID down when done.

Makes the bathroom looks cleaner, less germs and junk getting into the air from splashign water while flushing, keeps pets out of the free drinking water, etc.

WHen I put the seat down, I put the lid down too so it's not saving the woman any time. SHe still can't just sit down and pee. At least not without a major mess...

Toilets have lids for a reason. Everybody should close the lid, and whichever gender uses the toilet next should lift up the appropriate lid/seat combination.

That's my opinion...so how do you get women to put the lid down afterwards? Do I have to install some kind of spring mechanism?

I remember hearing a news story once about someone complaining about this. It might have been on Daily Show but it still is true. The woman was complaining how her 4-year old son and how he'd always miss and how "men don't know what it's like to go to the bathroom at 4 in the morning and sit on urine" or something like that.

I always do it at other people's houses, but not mine, because for some reason I'm usually the only one that uses this bathroom so might as well just be lazy.

I've actually seen toilets that when you flush them, they automatically put the seat and lid down. Not sure what happens if you do a preventive strike flush while still on the can though...

if you respect your girlfriend/wife then put it down for them

dude, just do what we do: we neither put it up or down. if you need to use it, adjust it accordingly.

i grew up sharing a bathroom with two brothers and one sister. we never complained to each other about the seat.

There is no good reason, especially since men use the pisser more than women, on average. I'm sick of fighting this fight. I've never heard a good reason, but women seem to think it's their right, so I just let them have that one.

Respect how? If it's respect why can't they respect my more frequent using of the pisser and put the seat up? Cleanliness? There is zero increased hygiene by putting the seat or lid down.

My wife always leaves the lid up.....then the cats go and drink out of the toilet and get water on the seat. So I think I am going to start splashing some water from the sink on the seat before I close the lid.
Maybe that'll get the message across that she should close the lid, too.

Since women are usually the only people in the house who clean the darn thing it seems a small thing to ask that you put the seat down.

Every woman I know,be she maid or CEO at the end of the day has to get down on her knees to scrub the bowl that everyone else in the house craps in. Tell me about equality and power.
