i checked the typical places, staples, outpost, mwave, newegg and i notice that price ranges from 35 to 60buck just for a steel wire lock!!! what am i missing that is causing this wire to be so expensive? i dont think i can afford 50buck just for a lock, does anyone have any ideas to prevent others from picking my laptop up and running away? at work, i have to walk away every once awhile with alot of people in the room. there is just this one tiny round hole on the right corner. i cant seem to fit any wire to tie a knot, anyone else have a idea to use tight wraps or seomthing?:(

Check out CyberGuys. I think they have a cheap one. I got mine from them and it was only about $7. Of course it is not nearly as thick as some of the more expensive ones (the thing looks like it would be easier to break than a USB cable) but I figure it should keep someone from just picking it up and stealing it.

Search "laptop lock" and it should come up.

Kensington appears to own the market in this area. However, with my previous employer, they were handing these things out left and right. Paying $40.00 for a laptop lock was a small amount compared to a $1,500 laptop with valuable files on it.

are these locks unverisal? that cyberguy lock seems very promising, but i am not sure if itll fit. i have a kds laptop. the tiny hole is like a oval with a lock icon next to it. man, if there was two hole, i would have just used a wire to tight it down, but there is only one hole which makes it harder to attach it.

Yes I'm quite sure they are all the same. Every laptop I've seen from a Compaq 386 to my Inspiron 8200 have had the same exact lock hole. The I recommended from CyberGuys should work fine.
