I'm sure this has been explained some where before but I can't find it. Thanks in advance.

Also, why don't the two just go to war already?

Israel would win in 16 minutes.

Edit: And after the "war" would be over, the cycle would start up again.

long long story, in short, ww2 over, Brittish control the area, hand it over to the UN, its decided to give jews land (they had been migrading there heavily since around 1900), Israel part is created, as soon as that happens war, and another war and war yes and war, oh yeah and more war. No one got around to it to create the second state. And to put it simply, everyone is to blame for the current situation.

They're fighting because both sides are tremendous a-holes who can't share the same land with each other.

The Palestinians lost a war. They think they should have their way anyway.

They're egged on by other arab countries who offer their solidarity because jerusalem--the third of fourth holiest city in Islam but the first in Judaism--is inhabited by non-Muslims and, by golly, that's not kosher.

Like any uneducated people, the Palestnians think random murder will eventully give them their way and, like every Muslim entity, they use Israels counter-strikes on those murderers as evidence that their violence is and was justified.
