Why are Hot Pockets considered geek food?

Seriously, every time you see some stereotypical depiction of some nerd at his computer, he's eating Hot pockets. I enjoy them myself from time to time, and I'm definitely a giant horrible nerd, but I can't see the connection.

I've asked some of my friends who buy them in the giant 64 packs from Sam's Club and seem to enjoy eating nothing but them for days at a time, but I'm not getting any coherent answers out of this.

So yeah, when did Hot Pockets become the official food of Geekdom?

I have no idea, why is Starbuck's coffee a geek drink?

Besides, I'm a geek and I hate Hot Pockets.

The computer whiz who was in that movie about the crew going to the center of the Earth

Whatta' you gonna' pick?

I retired from Hot Pockets a long time ago. there are better ways to wrap toppings in bread, it's called a sandwich. And you can heat those up too, even in oven!

It should be self evident. PC gaming type geeks are considered fat, obsessive, and lazy, therefore hotpockets are the perfect food for them (me, and probably you too.) Although I'm not fat :) And I don't like hot pockets... When I think of geek food I think hot pockets and bawls.

Anyhow, southpark exploited a stereotype that was already in place not the other way around.

Let me see if I can explain it in your terms... hmm....

OK, here it is.

Imagine you killed a kangaroo, then removed its pouch, stuffed it with low grade slush from the meat factory, added some cheese-like substance, and then wrapped it up and packaged it as frozen food that is heated in the microwave then eaten.

No, I go for Lean Pockets... I'm watching my figure ;).

Geeks would like them, because you simply heat them up and you're done. They're a "quick fix" compared to actually having to cook something. Personally, I like these fake chicken wings things at Wegmans that are boneless so you just eat em like chicken nuggets... soooo good.

...so easy even a geek could do it.

All they require is microwave and two minutes to cook. Hell, you don't even need utensils. Plus there is no cleanup. Simply toss the box and the cooking pouches and the dishes are done.

Perfect for the man who's mother refuses to continue doing the dishes for him.
