Why are HDTV's blurry?

I was in Best Buy the other day checking out new TVs and all the new TVs (Plasma, HDTV, etc...) all look blurrish to me, like a choppy unsmooth video game or something. Maybe I'm just used to my old tv from 1995...?

maybe it wasn't the proper feed. At BB I noticed the true HiDef feeds are in the aisles in the tv section with the smaller units (usually plasma), not against the huge 47"+ tv wall.

You immediately see a difference with any HiDef feed... can't miss it.

analog signals don't look good on HDTV. Check it out with an HD signal...amazing.

I dunno it looks pretty darn good in my CC, of corse if it's a HDTV we put a HDTV feed to it, unlike elsewhere.

And yes analog looks like crap.

Out of curiousity (since I'm not going TV shopping until June), how do non-anamorphic DVDs look?

Since 90% of what I watch these days is on DVD, it seems stupid to buy a HDTV if the upconverting will look worse than buying a cheaper EDTV.

non-anamorphic DVDs must be zoomed in on to fill the screen. This amplifies the imperfections and makes it a lower resolution picture.

I refuse to buy any non-anamorphic DVDs now that all my TVs are big screen HDTVs. And there are very few out there that are non-anamorphic now. Most have been re-released with improved transfers that are also anamorphic.

Maybe because they're running the signal through about a 20 way splitter to all those TVs. That and the fact that most of the flunkys working at places like that don't know how to adjust a screen properly - or care to.

BTW, there's no such thing as a HD DVD so I never saw the point in owning a HD set for the few channels that are available - IMO.

My WEGA's squeeze mode is just as pretty as any HD set while displaying a DVD. With the exception of being smaller of course.

Just a matter of time and HD DVD will be here.

I wouldn't even consider buying an EDTV.

Well some TVs have some decent modes, Hitachi and Panasonic have a stretch feature, that leaves the middle alone and stretches the edges... makes it not so noticable since you mostly look in the center.

We don't know how to adjust the picture? You try setting the picture on 100 TVs every day because someone decides to change all the settings, or their kid starts mashing remote buttons. It's hard enough to keep them all on the same channel let alone set correctly. TV's come in the box set for the showroom, bright light situations, so at the most if one gets thrown off bad enough we can reset it to the factory settings, but I nor anyone else would ever have the time to set all the TVs correctly.
