why are flags at half staff today?

it was a few days ago, and it must be for the disaster, but i don't recall anything in the US code (applicable law) about lowering flags for natural disasters, i guess the Pres. can probably direct it to be done or something

No kidding. I mean, pretty soon we'll be lowering our flags for a measly 100,000 deaths.
