Why are Facebook/Myspace constantly attacked for "setting up" meetings between adults/minors..

There have been numerous accounts of adults who find 14/15 year olds on Facebook/Myspace--moreso the latter, they end up meeting and acts of immorality take place.

As far as I'm concerned though, Facebook and myspace are no more responsible for what happens there than a city is for owning a park that is used as a meetup spot for these people.

However Craigslist has specific sections for each city where prostitutes can and are encouraged to post ads to seek out men and solicit such behavior--yet there have been essentially no moves done to crack down on this at all in spite of CL's popularity and longevity.

Have the CL ads been around for too long that people are just numb towards it and don't care anymore, like we are with "real life" prostitution/drug dealing?

Maybe because we look more down on child molestors than people who solicit prostitutes?

I can pretty much guaruntee the Eliot Sptizer story would still be front page news to this day if he had molested children instead of visited call girls.

That's very true..I think it goes like this in terms of how big a deal we make of our celebrities:

1) extra-marital affairs--who cares anymore?
2) prostitution--immoral but understated
3) gay affairs--this is when it gets murky
4) child molestation--hang them at the stake

Yeah, there have been stories in the Atlanta paper about stings/crackdowns on CL prostitution.

But of course the Facebook/Myspace stories will get more play because prostitution isn't that salacious unless it is someone famous or a politician. Adult/minor encounters are a hit for newspapers on many different levels.

Escorts and prostitution are not looked down upon as viciously as many are lead to believe. This is especially true when compared to the adult/minor conflicts.
