Why are DVD pre-orders usually discounted pretty well?

The more a company buys in bulk, the bigger the discount the company gets from the distributor.

For example, I worked in a video department and did the pricing and entering. If we got 3 of the same movie for rent, we paid $60-80 a piece. If we got 20 of that same movie, we paid about $15-20 a piece.
 
A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush??? Having some money now is better than having a little more later? Just a thought. Plus it probably saves one more copy from the bargain bin eventually.
