Why are computer speaker satelites so small?

theplanb,

I would imagine that HiFi Stereos aren't kept on desks in bedrooms, dorms, cubicles, etc. Tiny satellites are convenient and they still sound pretty good. Usually people with HiFi stereos have big speakers for big rooms, not small cubicles 😉

Then again there's the Bose System which runs $3000 for the high-end stuff, and is as small as a fist, of course you get five or six of them, and a sub-woofer the size of a subway train.

Yup, that's true. Actually, I hooked up my Altec Lansing PC speaker to my DVD player and retired my receiver and big speakers. It works fine.
