Why are CD-ROM drives designed where the buttons are hard to press when the tray is open?

Why are CD-ROM drives designed where the buttons are hard to press when the tray is open? Isn't that a rather dumb design? It would be easier if the buttons were above the tray.

Electronic boards are located underneath the motor, which must raise the cd off of the tray. An inverted design would be difficult I assume.

Good thought though.

I agree with Viper. You could have a button above and use wires to provide the connection, but it would raise costs and put 1 more item to fail inside the drive. IMHO, at least.

Just give the CD tray a little push, it goes back in

Or install the drive upside down.

Or install it the proper way and turn your computer upside down.
