Why are cars always sliding in commercials?

Watching Rachel Maddow tonight I was dumbstruck by an Infinity ad for their big SUV. They showed it sliding sideways across the screen, and I remember many recent car ads from other "high end" brands showing the same thing.

Although I'm not their target audience, I could never imagine wanting a car that appears to slide so easily. It may look "sporty" but it also looks dangerous. o_O

What I find funny about car commercials is if they found out you did any of the things they show with it, it would probably void the warranty. "Our 4x4 trucks made with military grade aluminium can climb all these rocks! and watch as we drop this 4 ton boulder in the box from a crane and it can handle it!" I'm sure when you bring in your truck that's all scratched and dented with a bent frame asking for a warranty work and they find out you went freaking mountain climbing with it, they probably wont cover that.

That's probably why there are all the disclaimers in small text at the bottom of the screen like "do not attempt". lol

What's annoying is the squealing tire noise when the car is on dirt.

Back when the FJ Cruiser first came out, the early builds had a serious differential defect. One of the forum dwellers took his to the dealer for warranty work. The dealer insisted that the owner had abused the vehicle by taking it off road. The owner told the dealer that if the dealer could find a single picture of an FJ on pavement in any of Toyota's sales literature, he would agree to eat the cost, otherwise he demanded that the dealer honor the warranty. The dealer caved as no such picture existed.

OTOH, Toyota never did a recall or service bulletin to address the defect, bastards.

Gubbermints should force them to perform such acts using the average driver. Oh, wait, maybe the insurance industry should do that to show how dangerous it will be when morons like the insured do stupid things when being encouraged by the automotive industry.
