Why are binders so expensive?

I bought a lot of trading cards recently, which meant that I would need three ring binders to put them in.

Went to Office Depot and found that binders cost between $12-$42! I just don't see how a 5" binder should cost $25 more than a 2" binder. The material cost difference must be trivial.

Does that strike anyone else as being really expensive?

What kinda cards?

You should have asked me a few months back... I got rid of two dozen perfectly good binders by "donating" them to a for profit thrift store.

probably gouging for back to school sales.

I think those are normal prices since students generally don't use such binders.

TV and Movie cards.

This plus op went to office depot vs places like walmart unless they were having sales.

Walmart's prices seem fairly similar with $34 for a 5" binder.

I just don't see how some plastic cover cardboard and metal rings can cost so much.

Wow that does seem expensive, I'm pretty sure I remember them being only a few bucks but that's going back pretty far. Funny though, been working full time for almost 10 years now, and I still don't miss school or the whole back to school fiasco. At least with work everything is more or less status quo all the way. And no homework FTW.

On sort of similar subject, I saw Halloween chocolates at Shoppers the other day, at first I assumed it was overstock from last year and I thought it was odd that they were not even on sale. Then I realized, they're actually for THIS year! At very least wait till summer is over! There's only a few weeks to go.

Binders definitely are ridiculously priced at least at OD/OM. I remember 20+ years ago they were like $1-2 for typical 1-2" binders, and 5" binders being $10 max.
