I just hate religion and what its done to the world in general.

Its all fucking made up BS, yet millions have died over it and continue to do so.

I just can't believe any intelligent person would grow up and not at one point just realize that its all made up, no more real than Santa or the Tooth Fairy.

Its all about power, money, and peons being able to be tricked into believing anything.

Religion plays a key role in society, it saves people from figuring out their own philosophy.

I just wish to clarify: We hate on all religions, not just Christianity.

Also, if you don't want us to hate on you, stop hating on us, stop trying to convert us, and for the love of FSM, stop trying to change our laws to force compliance with your beliefs!

Oh so the behavior of SOME Christians is not enough to generalize about all Christians, but the behavior of some atheists is enough to generalize about them?

Well Christians are an actual, self-defined and self-labelled group.

Atheists aren't, their 'label' exists only because of religious people.

The religious authorities persecuted atheists for hundreds (thousands...?) of years, so expect a bit of a backlash every now and then.

Its not like any of you have ever been seriously persecuted by a Christian

I haven't, but others have:

Atheist Teen Jessica Ahlquist Bombarded with Death, Rape Threats over Cranston High School West Prayer Banner Lawsuit

Soldier Allegedly Murdered For Being An Atheist

High School Student Stands Up Against Prayer at Public School and Is Ostracized, Demeaned and Threatened

If you don't believe in something, what compels you to spend time obsessing and spewing irrational hatred?

I'll answer this by asking you the same thing:

What compels Christians to hate on homosexuals by obsessing and spewing irrational hatred towards them? If you don't believe in gay sex, then don't have sex with a person of the same sex.

What compels Christians to hate on Muslims by obsessing and spewing irrational hatred towards them? If you don't believe Islam is right, then don't become a Muslim.

What compels Christians to hate on contraception by obsessing and spewing irrational hatred towards those that use it? If you don't believe in contraception, then don't use it.

It's not just in the distant past. Within the lifetime of most of the people on this board, a sitting US president called into question the patriotism and even citizenship of atheists.

I bet most of you didn't even know that.

They persecuted people of any belief/religion that wasn't their own.

The difference with atheists is that there's only 1 thing that binds them together and even that varies drastically. Some atheists are heavy agnostics, light atheists, strong atheists, fat atheists, neckbearded fascists, it's impossible to put non-believers under one umbrella unless you go with non-believer but then it only applies to a non-believer of X religion; thus everyone else.

Christians and other believers of other religions are weird. They're just as much atheists as a typical atheist since they don't believe in every other religion and their stories yet somehow someone who doesn't believe in theirs is supposedly shocking :x

In fact, last month I spoke with a Christian missionary who mistook me for the continent of Africa and asked if I was a believer, "No" I replied. "Why not?" asked the seemingly inquisitive assmonkey. "For the same reasons you're not a Muslim." The conversation ended before it began.

Everyone's an atheist, the term itself is relative to your position and the question at hand.

Okay so you don't believe in it. Good for you, so why all the constant, hipster-esque hate towards people who do?

Its not like any of you have ever been seriously persecuted by a Christian (being taken to church or having someone knock on your door is not persecution). If you don't believe in something, what compels you to spend time obsessing and spewing irrational hatred? Wouldn't you just like... not care?

Its not like that kind of attitude shows severe insecurity or inadequacy or anything....

Why are you lumping all Atheists into one group? Just like how not all Christians are annoying and pushy with their beliefs, not all Atheists are obnoxious about it either.

Everybody just needs to quit judging people in general. Whatever floating fucker you believe in will do that himself when you're dead.

Christianity is a belief where you accept some premises without evidence or proof. It bothers me when people try to force others to accept those premises as "fact".

I hate people who spread mysticism in the solemn tones of one who is imparting a great truth. I hate how they deflect criticism with meaningless drivel and then go right back to spreading half-understood nonsense as though the criticism never occurred. I hate how they claim that their notions about religion are real knowledge while not subjecting it to any of the methodology we have for gaining real knowledge, especially when I see them using good methodology in non-religious matters.

I don't hate Christians in any respect other than the sheer stubborn, bullheadedness with which they hold their beliefs. I hate that in the same way that anyone would hate anyone else when they are being stubborn and bullheaded about something. I don't have anything in my personal philosophy that is equivalent to it, and I think there is no place for it in any arena that claims to deal in true knowledge.

why are Christians so obsessed with atheists?

Further, why do Christians believe they are the only ones whose religion is challenged by atheism.

Further, why do Christians think they are the only sect on this planet with religious beliefs?

I think it's because they are generally haters and that is what haters do, they hate.

I'm an agnostic not an atheist, but I don't "hate Christians" unless they are trying to inflict their beliefs on others.

Despite what some Christians tell themselves, the Founding Fathers of the US believed in freedom from religion, not a theocracy.

Jefferson, Franklin, et al. joined the Church of Unitarian Universalists if, for no other reason, than to save face.

They were fundamentally agnostic/atheist in their belief. The evidence for this is solid, simply through their extensive journals, letters and basic philosophy.

1: are you now, or have you ever been, gay?

2: I find the Church's irrational obsession of and spewing hatred towards homosexuals to be especially vile and distasteful. Get back to the rest of the world when you guys decide to clean out your closet.

Because they know they can get christians riled up.

Jews and Muslims would likely not even register any criticism coming from an atheist.

Just out of curiosity, what do you mean when you say atheists are obsessed with hating Christians?
Have atheists claimed that Christians deserve to suffer for all eternity if they don’t accept evolution? Or have atheists burned people at the stake for committing heretical logical fallacies? Do Atheists protest at the funerals of soldiers waving signs that the spirit of philosophical naturalism hates Christians? Have Atheists systematically protected, covered up, and enabled child molesters in the National Academy of Science? Have Atheists tried to promote making it illegal for Christians to marry each other?
What exactly is it that Atheists are doing to hate on Christians?

Religion plays a key role in society, it saves people from figuring out their own philosophy.

Well, it was more of an ancient way of getting everyone on the same path. It played a critical role at one point by laying out societies rules and letting people know they were always being watched.

Social rules are now engrained in us, so religion has outlived its usefulness. It's now often used to push often unwanted policies and practices on people for a select group to remain in control.
