Why are asian people referred to as yellow?

They don't look yellow. Asians seem to be either white, tanned, in between, or dark. Are asians predisposed to having kidney stones?

Wikipedia?

Says nothing... I don't know really. 🙁 Google, is your friend, I guess.

Oh. Okay. I was hoping for a racially-provocative thread but I guess wikipedia works too.

interesting

In the United Kingdom, the term "Asian", though it can refer to the continent of Asia as a whole,[7] is more commonly associated with people of South Asian origin, particularly Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis and Sri Lankans.[18] The UK usage of the term "Asian" is reflected in the "ethnic group" section of UK census forms, which treat "Asian" and "Chinese" as separate (see British Asian).[6] Most respondents to the UK 2001 Census of non-Chinese East Asian and Southeast Asian descent chose to write-in their ethnicity in the "Other Ethnic Group" category rather than the "Other Asian" category, reflecting the association of the word Asian in the UK with South Asian.[19]

They pee alot because they are always eating organic foods, so they got the term yellow.

oh hell I have no idea, I thought it sounded good since they are always eating some kind of plant or rice all the time 😛

American Indians aren't really red either.

They got that term because of the fire in their bellies for wanting to kill the white man for taking over their lands.

Again, I thought it sounded good 😛

I agree. The should call them "the Tan Man". It sounds cooler. 😎

To be fair, black people aren't black, and white people sure as hell aren't white. Even albinos are more pink than white.

If you stare at an east asian person's skin tone under the right colour temperature of light, it does have a yellow-ish hue.

ok, someone need to post that picture of 3 asians with yellow sports cars and called themselves the yellowbirds.....

Hmmm, I always figured that even though some Asians are as white or more than the average white European/American, Asians were labeled as yellow because they were too inferior to be considered white. Kind of like how it says "Non-Hispanic" next to the "White" option on some forms. 😛

when god was creating the first batch of human race, he stick them in the oven for too long, and they overcooked... thus, he made the black people, then with the second batch, he didn't want to make the same mistake and took them out too soon, so they were undercooked, thus, he made the white people. The third batch was just right, he made Asians.

i forgot where i heard this joke.

It's easy to see how "white" people are called that, and the same for "black" people. So people started using other colors, namely yellow and red, to describe oriental and Native American people, respectively. Everyone is just a shade of brown, anyway, except for the rare people with albinism that lack melanin completely.
