Why are all Mac users Hippies?

Ok, I mean most mac users before I get flamed on that..

But what is it about Macs that draw the tree huggers and pot smokers? And why does every Mac user have that Apple sticker on their car.. I mean I knew you had a Mac just by looking at your Honda Insight..

I have a few ideas why..

1. Pot plants behind the monitors grow real big.
2. Every mouse button removed, means more money for the Peace Corps.
3. A hollowed out Ipod make a good dug-out.

I use a Mac. The LAST thing anyone would ever call me is a hippie. Granted, I don't have a stupid Apple sticker on my car.
 
Most people I know who use Macs do so because there are (or were) strong incetives provided to academia by Apple. Researchers used programs written for Macs because that is what they had, and once upon a time Macs WERE superior to PC's. Not this is not true, but they are comfortable with what they have, and there are compatability issues remaining. PC's are definitely coming into the labs, but there are still a lot of Macs around. BTW be thankful for Apple. While they are not serious competition for Intel these days, once they were. If not for the incentive to surpass them, your computer would probably be have a command line interface and beep at you.
 
here's a theory.

You assert that Macs and Hippies are casualy linked because they are highly associated.

In the abstract form,

A associated with B, A causes B OR B causes A

There is another possibity though.

A and B are caused by C

Mac users are hippies because Apple targeted the Education Market.

a lot of scientific software is written for macs. I do cotton research and I use a mac at work, but PC @ home 😛

The hardcore hippies smell. Not everyone who smokes weed and doesnt cut their hair fails to bathe, but your true hippie who is living in a commune, well, usually bathing isnt among their priorities.
 
You are wrong. Macs are used by artists primarily. Some of them happen to be hippies, especially the older ones. My art teacher in HS drove a Miata and refused to drive an automatic car, and was planning to buy an iMac...
 
I just changed my major to graphic design and in the art building pretty much all they use are macs. They are extremely nice though. The classrooms remind me of a coffee shop and G4's everywhere. I wish they would use PC's, mainly because we are required to buy a mac laptop and I have an Inspiron. Whatever gets the job done works, imo. And no not all of them are hippies, just weird ass artsy people.
