Black people are aiight....cannot really generalize abt them in that sense....from my experiences most of the people who fit ur billing of an standard african american are true when they are from a ghetto or from a poor neighbourhood.....educated blacks are very well cultured and very well mannered...it is just the question of money...did u ever come accross some trailer trash or white people from the boston projects....then u would understand.

All I'm asking for is an example of how you know that black people have it easy. You don't have to get so upset. You made a rather curious remark about other people, so I was wondering what gives you credibility on the subject being that you're not black yourself. Your posting this remark in this thread, made it part of my business. :)

Why do I feel like I have to prove myself? Like it doesn't matter what I say, that I always have to show that someone else said it or proved it - that my word isn't good enough? Well screw. Looks like someone's not getting their "proof" to backup my opinion.

That's fine. As a tip for the future, don't make ignorant statements and people won't ask for proof. I don't know you and from what I've read on this board, you say a lot of dumb things so I'm less hesitant to believe your word. :)

When you make ignorant statements that have the outward appearence of being racist you should expect to have to defend your statement with at least something that can be factually verified. Just because you were some "Poor Whiteboy" you aren't an expert by far.

Since when has it been wrong for people to make observations based on their life experiences??

I grew up driving fords I like fords. i grew up driving Fords, Fords are trash.

aren't those generalizations?? everyone on these boards have made generalizations w/ regards to something at some point in time.

as to your comparison pulse, saying i look ignorant because i'm the pot calling the kettle black, NO, i'm not saying that i dislike black people because they generalize about Koreans, I'm saying i dislike people because the ones i've met active negatively based on those generalizations.

I don't act on my biases. that is the difference pulse, for some reason you seemed to have missed that minor point.

nik

This statement coming from a middle to upper-middle class white boy. How do you know how easy anyone but yourself has it?

middle upper class? LOL

With the exception of the last six years, my single mother raised me on a salery that was $5 higher than the state's poverty level. I live in a neighborhood where just recently, within a few years, two crack houses were busted. My mom and I have busted our asses to get where we are, and that ain't very far.

Well my mother also raised me and my siblings by herself and we too lived with crack houses on our block infact the building we lived in is where most of the crack was sold from. So I don't see how you say we had it easy. My mother worked three jobs all paying minimum wage and went to school so that she could get us out of that enviroment I don't call that easy. In fact I call that damn hard. Yet still if I walk into the Macy @ 34 in NYC I get followed till I buy something or leave. Is that having it easy? When I join the Navy and my recuriter asked me if I did drugs and I said no and he said "Come on all you guys do weed" I guess that is easy too huh? I could go on and on but looking at your other post you seem to have made up your mind and changing it won't be Easy

What you're missing, however, is that not all people are the same. You make an example to driving Fords, but not all of those are the same either. It's ok if you never buy a Ford ever again because you've had bad experiences with them. I'm sure there's someone else in this world who can say the complete opposite. I'm not saying that you shouldn't judge the buying of a car on past experiences, because that affects no one but yourself and if buying a Ford is a waste of money for you, then I say don't do it.

We're not talking about Fords, though. We're talking about people. When you lay down $20,000 for a Ford and it craps out on you, you've lost $20,000. If you give people the benefit of the doubt on an individual basis, what do you lose?

You say that you don't act on these biases, but here we are in a thread about them.

If we all based our views of everyone on the few people that we actually come into contact with, then this world will just become more hateful than ever. Who knows, there could be a few black people on this forum who now dislike Asians because of this post.

Well, during a conversation between an inner city black and a suburban white they were talking about where that racial hatred that blacks exhibit comes from, as regarding to people from inner city Chicago. Then the white guy asked, what about other ethnicities? Like asians?
The black guy answered that asians are considered white... I was like "what???"... he said that most of them don't care and just lump you in. Also, I've noticed a hostility between the black community and Korean communities, look at the LA riots. BTW, I'm not Korean... although Koreans do have a lot of pride in their own ethnicity. I believe they should, as I do, but there are times when that pride incites a bad reaction. There are plenty of ethnic hostilities within the "Asian American community." Yet white America just lumps us all together... and it seems that black America does too. It's the same as lumping all Latinos & Hispanics in together... how alike are a Cuban American and a Brazilian American? They'd probably say that they're pretty different.

I believe if the context is different, people are different as well. Most minorities in the white suburbia where I grew up, we HAD to stick together. Being ridiculed and attacked... living through prejudice meant pooling our struggle to protect ourselves. I honestly didn't want to integrate and become "white" since it wasn't me and wasn't who I was nor where I came from. Just because the ignorance of White America has caused so many problems does not give license to other ethnicities to do the same. Jerks will be jerks, regardless of their background.

You say that you don't act on these biases, but here we are in a thread about them.

You and I apparently have ENTIRELY different definitions to the word ACT.

what we have here is just conversation. it is a conversation that i've had with many black friends, whether they agree with me or not, we still remain friends. some of my black friends agree with me, some dont.

my point is, when i meet a black person, i don't immediately start spouting racial remarks (which is what my wife encountered today) and acting rudely because that person is black.

I only respond to how they TREAT ME. The way i treat any individual person is based on how they act towards me, this is probably true of all of us.

So, explain to me one more time how this rant of a thread which is nothing more than animated conversation is "acting" on these biases??

So I'll take it that since you ignored the rest of my post, you agree with it. If that's the case, then I think we're done here. :)

That is true, but because one black man acts this way towards your wife, the rest of the race is intolerant? To me, the fact that he's black has nothing to do with it. He sounds like an ass no matter what color he happened to be.

If it had been an Asian that spouted off things to your wife, how would you feel about the situation then? Would the person at that point just be a jerk? If he were Chinese and not Korean, would this thread be talking about how Chinese people are intolerant of other races?

That's the thing. I don't treat you any different - until you start bitching about being oppressed and how everybody else abuses you and is "attacking your people" or whatever. You're just another joe until that very second.

that's it... it's game over, man! IT'S GAME OVER!

haha, you think racism is bad in this country. Try going to Russia, they insult every other race. Unless you're a white russian person, they will discriminate.

accusing someone of being Bigoted based on their words is like that stupid PC debate of the 80's.

people aren't bigoted because of what they say, their bigoted because of what they DO.
