I guess this is part of the problem right here. Some Americans United Staters think they are not human. They are reptiles.

Serious question: what are people from USA actually called? You can't say American because America is the name of 2 continents, so that's as stupid as saying "I'm European" when you really mean German.

WTF are you talking about reptiles? And we are and always will be Americans...United States of AMERICA

It comes up in a lot of threads. A left wing American or a European will say "look at what this country did" then right wing Americans respond by saying Americans are not human. Health Care won't work in America because we're not human. Copying X country's drug policy will not work because Americans are not human. Copying Y country's education will not work because Americans are not human.

You might want to look up what America is.
Dictionary:
A landmass in the western hemisphere that consists of the continents of North and South America joined by the Isthmus of Panama.

OK so you're just an idiot...got it.

Different cultures have nothing to do with what species we are...

And of course In the English language, the Americas refers to the landmasses of North America and South America with their associated islands and regions, while America may be ambiguous as it is more commonly used to refer to the United States of America

Well, by common identification, America as a descriptor is vague because it is commonly accepted to refer to the USA or to the landmass in general (much like Holland and the Netherlands and the Dutch), yet American as a nationality refers exclusively to a citizen of the USA.
A Mexican would not call themselves an American... a Canadian considers themselves Canadian, everyone of Central and South America refers to themselves by nationality or ethnicity, etc etc. American = US citizen; America = landmass, commonly used to represent the USA.

Thus, we can drop the argument that one should call a citizen of the USA anything other than an American.
However, it is indeed correct that America is not an accurate reference when speaking specifically of the USA.

I've heard tons of bullshit from kids, but I'd like to know what bullshit adults regularly feed kids that would make them get pregnant if followed?

In general of course, I understand that there's groups of people out there who are rather "separated" from society and genuinely may not understand about preventative measures. I'm asking about the majority.

By being uncomfortable talking about sex. Not many parents would be willing to spring for birth control for someone still in highschool, they don't know EXACTLY how to get it on their own, and aren't really motivated to do so until a friend or two gets pregnant, whoops. PSA fail. They aren't taught why, how, the consequences, how much it costs, where to get what you need, etc. Everything is fudged into obscurity because it is seen in society as a taboo subject to be ignored.

So they learn the hard way through trial and error although not exactly the best method when the consequences can ruin your chances at a good profession.

Hmm...not many parents huh? When I was in high school about 50% of the girls I knew were on BC...what are you basing your opinion on? And kids know the why, how, cost and consequences etc., they just think it won't happen to them...and sure lets put all the girls in high school on BC, tell them all sex is ok, then watch the STD rate skyrocket

The undertone you have in the last sentence explains it all. How do you know for sure? They seem to be exploding anyway so why in the hell is the way we do it now working at all? People and teenagers especially pick up on undertones like that and actually act on them more than people give them credit for.

It has to be their choice and they would actually make the right choice if given the right information. There is a HUGE sociological problem with the way we handle drugs, alchohol, and sex between generations. In the USA we have been dropping in rank in academics and a big part of that IMO is the whole "alchohol is bad" and so people drink themselves right out of college, if they managed to not get pregnant in highschool. Other societies have their shit together and we do not.

What undertone would they be picking up and acting on exactly? While I agree kids should be taught about forms of BC it should be their parents doing it, but I guess we should all just let the government take over parenting of our children.

Yes when left on their own teenagers make the right choice:rolleyes: And really our academic problem is because we don;t let our teenagers drink? WTF

According to the numbers, this only applies to the US. Maybe those right wingers are onto something when they say Americans are not human :hmm:

http://www.guttmacher.org/pubs/journals/3202400.html
Incidence of Syphilis
Among 15-19-year-olds (per 100k)
total
Canada (1996) 0.6
Netherlands (1995)‡ 1.0
United States (1996) 6.4 (10x higher than Canada)
Russian Federation (1994)** 211.4 (no condoms + God hates Russia)

Gonorrhea
total
Canada (1996) 59.4
Netherlands (1995)‡ 7.7
United States (1996)‡ 571.8 (10x higher than Canada)
Russian Federation (1994)* 596.5

Chlamydia
total
Canada (1996) 563.3
Switzerland (1996)‡ 37.7
United States (1996)‡ 1,131.6
Russian Federation (1996) unknown (they don't realize it's an illness because everybody has it)

The real lesson here is NEVER DATE A RUSSIAN. They're all dirty as shit. Also, every STD is more common in women than in men. They're also more common in gay men than straight men for the same reason.

In Italy drinking is not a social taboo, 16 year olds are allowed to have wine with dinner no big deal, no weird looks from their parents, etc. Italy has much lower binge drinking rates.

There is the way Americans think the world works and there is the way it really works and the two are disconnected. Yes more social acceptance of alcohol reduces undesirable uses of alcohol from a society standpoint.

Like giving students grant money to go to college and they drink themselves to straight F's draining our resources in the USA. Rates of this activity are much lower where the acceptance of alcohol is more tolerated. USA is just about the worst case scenario for lots of these problems. Teen pregnancy, binge drinking, STDs, drugs, we have terrible rates for a developed nation in all categories.

We all know religion and stupidity go hand-in-hand. We also know that if you tell a stupid person not to do something "because I said so" they will - more often than not - do exactly that.

So, telling a religious person not to have sex or do drugs "because god said so" is only encouraging that behavior, only in a more dangerous way since now any (safety) talk about that subject is taboo. That's why the US is fucked.

78% of the USA identifies with being religious, you really need to get a new line of reasoning to justify you're hatred of it.

And there is plenty of talk about BC everywhere, a kid would almost literally have to be living their entire life under a rock to not be exposed to it

Exposure is not the same thing as education and access.

Sign into Netflix and watch this "documentary"
http://www.pbs.org/pov/shelbyknox/

It's actually a really shitty documentary but it does a good job of showing what the feeling is like in Texas. This girl's home town has the highest teen pregnancy rate in the US, and she wants to fix that. She's part of some youth council or whatever and it follows her around while she's talking to people and going on some local radio show. The calls to the radio show are just ridiculous. In response to her suggestion of teaching proper sexual education, people call in with shit about "moralitay" (morality) and "sin" and some other shit. It's so ridiculous that you can't make this kind of stuff up.
It's as scary as those documentaries about creationism in the US. Some people are scary religious.

Yes there is a small minority of "religious" idiots out there, just like everyone who loves to say all Catholic priests are pedophiles due to the actions of an incredibly small number of them...doesn't make it true for the vast majority.
Exposure is not the same thing as education and access.
Education such as instructions on exactly how to put a condom on or take a pill? Those come with the device...and access to condoms is as close as your local 7-11. Kids aren't as dumb as you want to make them out to be, they know and choose not too because "hey, it won't happen to me." or they just don't give a shit. All the education and access in the world won't fix their give a damn...

How about this from Wiki just to get you started...1.5%-5% is not a small minority:rolleyes:

In a statement read out by Archbishop Silvano Maria Tomasi in September 2009, the Holy See stated "We know now that in the last 50 years somewhere between 1.5% and 5% of the Catholic clergy has been involved in sexual abuse cases", adding that this figure was comparable with that of other groups and denominations.

Back that up with some facts?

What facts? That only a small minority of religious people are idiots? Are you seriously asking this? Most people practicing religion and don't just say they're "religious", i.e. most church going Christians, are idiots. Good-hearted, maybe, but idiots -- talk about science, talk about anything that would show their bigotry or bullshit "morality", etc. I think it goes without saying to be honest. But carry on.

That's pretty much what I thought...if you're looking for bigotry and bullshit just look in the mirror next time
